Re: CMUcam setup

All symptoms of an incorrect Serial Port setup or you have the two serial lines hooked up at once. You can only have either the serial line to your PC or the TTL port on the RC hooked up, not both at the same time.

We had trouble using HyperTerminal to set the serial port and making it stick, so we did it using the Device Manager.

Check the serial port settings from the Device Manager.
I get there under W2K by
right clicking Properties for My Computer or under Control Panels click System,
then Hardware tab,
then Device Manager
select Ports (COM ...
double-click Communications Port
then Port Settings
and you know the rest.

Hi all,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is HyperTerminal, and what are its uses?

Sorry to bother you,

Dan

Hyperterminal comes standard with Windows and can be found at:
Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Communications

It can use the serial port on your PC and change the port settings. Typically, Hyperterminal is used as a substitute for the IFI_Loader terminal window for displaying debug output from the RC. It has several advantages, not the least of which is the capability to save debug output. There are some more notes here:
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...032#post279032

You can't usually have more than one program running that uses the same serial port, so you can't run the IFI_Loader terminal window while either the Hyperterminal or the CMU programs are running.

Thanks for the help Mark, I will have to experiment. Something to do tomorrow. Yay!

Thanks again,

We mounted them exactly as documented in the "Start Here" .pdf provided by Innovation First and it worked perfectly. You can find the document on Innovation First's website.

Brij,

Since you are missing the "A" in "ACK", I am guessing that you have a buffering issue...

I had a very difficult time trying to get hyperterminal to work with another device recently and ending up abandoning it for another communications package (I used VBTerm) which worked fine... HT has issues...

However, since the gui is not working either, I would check both the port settings and advanced port settings on the com ports. Also, check for hardware and/or software conflicts.

Regards,

Mike

Re: CMUcam setup

Thnks mike,
although i could hyperterminal could not return commands properly my cam has started working now! well one advice for others who are facing problems installing is always run cmu gui after closing the hyperterminal window.

would surely like to know how to solve this problems in hyperterminal/

regards,
Brij

Re: CMUcam setup

Brij,

As I said, I was unable to get HT to work (you will find my "adventures" embedded in this thread). I suggest that you use another communications package.

Good Luck,

Mike

Re: CMUcam setup

Make sure you plug in the main power to the RC so that it has a 12v battery and the 7v backup. Don't connect the ttl if you are using the serial port to the computer. We had this problem for the entire day today and didn't figure it out till the end. Now we having some pan/tilt problems...but oh wells....plenty of time still right? =)
