well Actually a 2x4 can vary anywhere between 1 3/8 x 3 3/8 to 1 3/4 x 3 3/4
but is usually is 1.5x 3.5,
and i didn't know that until i started working in lumber at home depot
and everyone knows that Firsts BOM and Field designs are +/- a 1/4 in
