Kit Gear Box in Inventor?

I downloaded the kit gear box inventor file, but for some reason it is a yellow transparent object, it doesn't show it as a solid. Also when I try to put it in an assembly it shows it in the list of parts that you have added but you can't actually see it. Help please?

Re: Kit Gear Box in Inventor?

There is a button immediately to the right of the "Look At" button, which selects between solid faces ("Shaded Display"), transparent parts ("Hidden Edge Display"), or "Wireframe Display." Perhaps this button is not set to "Shaded Display"?

A screenshot would be helpful in diagnosing your problem. Good luck!

Re: Kit Gear Box in Inventor?

It sounds like you are seeing the part modeled as surfaces, rather than solid. Are there any options in the Styles pull-down on the right side of the menu bar? As Greg noted, a screen shot would be helpful.

I've attached an example of a revolved surface - is this something like you're seeing?

Re: Kit Gear Box in Inventor?

Here is a picture of the problem that i'm having. I'm kind of new with inventor so maybe it has a very simple solution.

Now for the buttons, I know im kind of slow but I can't find them.
Thanks for all the help

You may want to include a slightly larger screenshot so that we might, y'know, be able to see something

Re: Kit Gear Box in Inventor?

If any one has the KOP Gear Box in Inventor 8, can it be saved to a previous version and uploaded somewhere for us old folks using version 7. I tried to import the IGES, but it locks up my computer - Arrrggghhh!

Re: Kit Gear Box in Inventor?

The screenshot looks to me the same way that Pete's gearbox is, but it looks like the solidity on the assembly is there. Try opening up all of the parts and try doing what Pete said.

Have you tried the STEP files on IFI's site ?

Where did you download this file from? It shows as a part file (.ipt) in your screenshot, but the download from IFI should be an assembly (.iam). You might try downloading again from the link above.

When you say "it locks up your computer" does it actually lock up or crash? On my Xeon 1.7 GHz, some of the larger STEPs take over a minute to convert.

Only a minute? my 2GHz machine took a lengthy 20...

Make sure when it does import you immediately save it to Inventor formats, they open really fast in comparison.

Exactly how can i get the kit gear box inventor file? Also, does it come already assembled. Or piece by piece?
We are finding the gears extremely hard to draw because of the lack of dimensions we can find.

We especially need the housing and gears.
