Well, here in Boston, school is cancled for *another* day. I'm not complaining or anything, but I got up at 4 this morning to finish my english paper... not to mention that I havn't been to Robotics in a week!

Maybe we'll have robotics regardless...

So far, I haven't heard any mention of an extension. What do you think?
All of the regional venues are already booked. I seriously doubt that there will be an extension.

Woke up this morning to very heavy snow... we probably have 4-5" already, and it's only supposed to get worse as the day goes on.

Actually, in the past FIRST has extended the shipping deadline by a few days (usually 2-3 days) due to teams being unable to meet because of the weather. They do not change the dates of the regionals. I think many teams missing up to a week of build could be ground for an extension. I'm just wondering if FIRST is considering one. My team, personally, is meeting for the First time in a week tonight.

I wouldn't be surprised if First extended the deadline like the other time it did. This time we have had such heavy snow snowers so close to each other. Boston is getting another 10 inches today.

As I recall, FIRST only extended the deadline due to the fact that *shipping* for the teams that were in the storm areas would be all but impossible.

Re: Snow Storm

Snowed in??? Cmon guys, if you're from the area, then traveling to the school should be a piece of cake. Our school cancelled Monday and Wednesday of this week. I'm looking at 6 diehards right now milling/turning/cutting out parts right now. We've brought in pizza for them for dinner and such. The students even stated they've accomplished more than they would have during a regular school day, reason being, NO DISTRACTIONS... Make use of the time where there is no lines for the machines.............Let the snow fly.......... 30 inches and counting here in Leominster, MA

Well when school is canceled, no one is allowed in the school, and every activity is canceled. The janitors don't let any one in, a they themselves leave really early in the morning.

Re: Snow Storm

So far this year our team has held it's meetings, though we did shorten the closing time to noon on the day of the snow-storm (Actually it was a district-wide decision). As for working through snow-storms, I have only one outstanding piece of advice to give. Be careful. If getting to robotics means that you have an epic to recant come the school week, then think of how difficult it would be for EMS services to reach you should anything go awry in the shop. Snow days are good days for media, chairmans, animation, business plan, programming and other non-tool activities.
As for previous years, we we're involved in the snow-storm two years ago and have been snowed in. All said though, the time makes no special demands than any other time; saftey is always the chief concern in our shops.

Re: Snow Storm

Last weekend we canceled the Sunday work session because of the 20" snowstorm headed our way. Today another storm caused our school to cancel all after-school activities...making us cancel a late meeting (we were supposed to go until 8 tonight). Hopefully we'll have better luck for the rest of the week and into the weekend... o.O
