Re: TEAM 701s ARM OF WONDER!

That looks really good except when I opened the file the movie played sideways but the arm looked really good and so did your hook, how many tetras are you able to hold and how high does the arm telescope?

That picture is really big. Can you edit your post to just link to it instead? In the video, the arm looks very good though. (however I broke my neck to see it oriented correctly )

Re: TEAM 701s ARM OF WONDER!

That's pretty darned cool. We don't have an arm design yet. Sure we have ideas, but nothing designed. Let alone built, lol.

Is the telescope pneumatic powered or what?
And is that two FP motors I see powering the elbow? Interesting...

Re: TEAM 701s ARM OF WONDER!

Question: How does that grabber grab tetras? It actually looks like it would be pretty good for the bar from last year (no insult implied). Is there more to the grabber than what we see, or is it still in design?

By the way, I like the custom made giant linear bearing.

that looks excellent! I'm glad I viewed it on a laptop where I could just rotate the monitor. is that powered with pneumatics or a motor?

Re: TEAM 701s ARM OF WONDER!

The telescoping is powered by a van door motor.... and there is more to the claw than you can see....

EDIT:

thanks for all the replies... with the hook in the pic we can grab 1-2 tetras at a time but probably just one at a time because stacking them on the ground then picking them up together takes just as long as just stacking them one after the toher

Thanks for the comments on the linear bearing it was a pain to machine (me and the user named Alekat made it) because TECHNICALLY we had a tolerance of 0" however the 2" box is actually 1.997" and the .875 bearings are actualy .874 so that gave us some leeway
You should see this thing in action it is SCARY SCARY how silent it is !!! its like some kind of monster raising its arm from behind you hehehe... like in the movies silent but deadly...

Re: TEAM 701s ARM OF WONDER!

oh yeah the arm is not gonna be really powered by FP w/ the plastic trannys (those are back ups ) ... we've got a sweet custom tranny ... i'm actually putting it together as i type this.... 250:1 reduction.... it was designed and machined and built in 2 days!

Re: TEAM 701s ARM OF WONDER!

Here's some links to the "two-day" dual FP transmission. We got a small Benchtop CNC mill in the Fall and after learning the ins and outs of CNC (and MasterCAM), this is it's first real result. Here's some links to a few pics (I would attach them, but for some reason I'm not allowed to use attachments anymore, just as well)

Dual FP Transmission, 260:1

Another pic of our arm transmission

Can you stack tetras like this?

Really tall reach, this might be a bit of overkill!!

Re: TEAM 701s ARM OF WONDER!

I'm not sure about the speed, and do you guys have a joint at the base?? We had a base joint last year powered by a screw drive, its really sweet and pretty much indestructable (watch for bends though...) All in all, a good design. Props!

Re: TEAM 701s ARM OF WONDER!

Ok chap, the stuff is good but really not awesome. You kinda wasting your time........... i mean look at the real scenario man, the game is divided between 15 seconds and 2 minutes, and you're arm took almost 10 seconds to open up. Wiith the details in the video, i can guess that it will take apprx. 40-45 sec or may be more time to pick and put the tetris on the top. So i can say that within the time limit of 2 minutes the robot will be able to put nearly 2 tetris on the goal.
This mechanism can't be offensive, but can be defensive. Think about it......
