One way system

Hey,

I am using the compressor only to fill on air tank that i have. The tank is rated for 280psi, so i have the air gage inbetween the compressor and the tank. When the tank reaches 70psi, the compressor isnt putting anymore air into the system and starts making this whistling sound. I am running it off a 12V dc power supply, and i wanted to know if anyone knew why i cannot put in at least up to 120psi. Is it becuase the tanks that are handed out with this compressor are each only rated at 60psi, making a total of 120? Any help would be appreciated. Thanx

When you hear the whistling sound, put your hand by the overflow valve of the pump. If that is leaking air, then you've reached the max pressure that the pump will go. If it is less than 120 then something is wrong with the pump...try another one.

You almost certently have a leak.

Use some soapy water and dab a small bit (eye droppers work well) on each fitting, valve or anything of the sort. If you see lots of bubbles, you've found your leak.

Check that valve on the compresser first, it may be bad... We had problems with it starting to leak around 90 psi (we'd get up to 120 and then it would leak down).

One of the many leaks we found in our system was the joint between the pump and the installed safety valve. Major Bubbles !!!! Once tightened, the pressure went up to about 120 psi.

Then there was the leaking ball valve (also from the kit) we used to exhaust the low pressure system ....
