Here in CT the state police do have Dodge Intrepids in thier fleet although most of the cars are Crown Vics. I don't know what, if any, mods were done to the Intrepids mechanically from regular production.

As a side note, I believe one of the worst things GM did was to cancel the Caprice several years ago without having a replacement available. This basically gave Ford the whole police and taxi business. It's true the new Impala is being used by some departments but it doesn't match up to what the Caprice (older Impala) was.

(and for the record, I do own a Caprice...........an '87 9 pass wagon, 167,200 on the odo)

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

I have seen unmarked Intrepids around where I live, and the cheif runs an unmarked Taurus. In Mass. I've heard that the highway patrol has been started to use 'Stang 5.0s on the highway. I've even heard rumors that a PD in the midwest got a Ferrari to keep up on the highways there. Maybe we'll be seing a 300M cruiser, that'd be sweet.

Fairfax County has some Corvettes with the LZ1 (or whatever that big engine is). Those things can move.

I drive...Yoshi's green go-kart! ^.^; Sorry, I can't drive yet, but I've got a pine green Ford Windstar van thingy (I'm not too literate on cars) for me. It's probably not the most famous or best, but...the paint is shiny.... @.@ (And as long as the car works, I'm happy. Shiny is an extra bonus.)

How'd you guess that I didn't get enough sleep?

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

i have a white 1993 Ford Explorer. its a great car but i have only two comlplaints: 1- i learned to drive in a V8 truck that has a lot more power and its hard sometimes to get up to speed when merging on the freeway. 2- im to cheap to go out to get a stereo. right now i am trying to listen to a cd player that is hooked up to the tape deck via one of the connector thingies... otherwise its a great car.

I've got a Buick Century- Gold... your typical elderly woman's car. I (along with a couple of my friends) named her Squishy from Finding Nemo. She's Floridian! (I feel kind of bad because we had to wrestle a curb Saturday night at Conn College after seeing Coco Beaux... but she took it like a trooper!

There are also anti-sway bars and a 2" lift (stiffer springs) on the interceptor along with lots of steel re-enforcements in the sides and such. Mines putting out about 240-250 hp with slightly more torque, but they weigh a ton, well, over 2 actually: about 4400 lbs. About 2X Andy's Miata (very fun car).

2in lift? My dad is a cop in Southfeild, Mi, and I've talked to the fleet manager for the department before and she said they all have a 1in drop from the factory... And as Matt said, the LS1 is an insanely strong motor. There are even vids of one with 7 turbos and mostly stock internals (no joke, seriously) floating around

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

Hrm...

Ok - time for me to inject some more info in here...

1. When going fast is your business - you drop your suspension. Better handling/less sway/ect. Lifting is meant for OFF-ROAD only. The more you lift, the more you are a brick in the wind, able to have body sway, and have worse handling.

2. It's physically impossible for an engine to have "7 Turbos" and keep stock internals. You can run a supercharger or turbocharger (ONE) at around 5-7 psi on a lower-compression engine with premium - but anything more WILL REQUIRE MORE WORK. The most an engine can have is 5 forced inductions. Needs to be in a "V" configuration, and have quad-turbo (Twin turbo on each side of the engine - 4 intakes right there) and one supercharger on top. Anything more will be useless/bog the motor down (and a HUGE waste of money.)

350's are strong - but not bullet-proof. I've seen a lot of the Vortech 4.3 V-6/5.7 V-8 have problems with their upper and lower intake gaskets. They rupture causing a bad leak of coolant, but GM is known for this...(3.1, 3.4, 3.8, ect... )

3. Every vehicle out there has anti-sway bars. They are called "Sway Bars" and help to stop the roll of the body. If you off-road you disconnect these so you can get better 'flex' out of your suspension.

So all n' all - I don't want to start any wars here or make enemies - just pointing out fact from fiction!

Wetzel, what year Vette? An older version proally' has the LT5 in it...(I would give my left leg for that engine) All aluminium, DOHC engine. Holds *10* quarts of oil w/ oil filter. Very Bad-Butt engine.

Stina - about your Century, there are versions that have a 3800 Series (3.8L) supercharged - so Buick can come up and suprise ya. Got the 3.8 under the hood? If you don't have the supercharged one and you want to under-take a project for after the build seasion I think you should swap in the Supercharged one!

Chrysler does have some vehicles in fleet - but they have not been modified in any way for the engine. Same stock power as what you can buy off the dealer showroom. That's why Chrysler hasn't seen anything latley - just have nothing to offer...

I think that's enough for now...

Just going by what the site said... I'd assume that the crank and a few other rotating parts were swapped, maybe they meant the same pistons/rings and whatnot?

This isn't entirely accurate...you can have 7 turbos, but they would have to be in series which would negate their purpose and would not gain any power for anything past the first one. And you can have more than 4 turbos on a large engine (12+ cylinders) and still have them be efficient. But in general, your knowledge is correct.

In general this is correct, but there are a few (maybe only a couple) of cars out there without sway bars. Sorry I can't hink of any of them right now, but if I remember them I will get back to you.

The pistons and connecting rods are usually the weakest parts in the engine when it comes to forced induction. Forged pistons and rods are needed for a car running high boost.

I drive...

different cars depending on the weather. My first car (and my baby) is an 86 Camaro. Unfortunately, its automatic, and...a six *sniff sniff*. Oh well. I'm running a nice little system in it though. Alpine mp3 player up front, sony 6x9s in the sides, and two 12" X-plods. Yea, there's better out there, but they were free. Only problem with the camaro is its got t-tops that leak. So rain means garage time for my baby, at which point I pull out my 91 Prelude SI. Now THERE'S a fun car. The guy that owned him before me (incidently my cousin's counsin) used to race, so he swapped in an H22 engine. Its manual, and it hauls. Then of course we've got our 2000 F-250 Superduty with the powersroke v8 turbo diesel. Yay for towing power and a huge bed. And of course, what family is complete without the minivan. Its a chysler town and country...NEVER BUY ONE! THEY SUCK! We've spent so much money on it just trying to keep it running...grr. I'm also about to graduate, which means I get a new car...so I'm seriously looking at the 2005 Neon SRT-4. I drove an 04 srt-4 a few weeks ago...and all I can say is WOW. Anyways, just my contribution to this thread.

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

Your truck started out white, so you can do whatever you like. I've been a "hot rodder, car guy, motor head, etc. for 30+ years and if it were me, I'd paint it Mopar Lime Green with a mat black hood and roof. Give it a Challenger or 'Cuda vibe, even cut in a readily available hemi shaker hood piece. Finish it off with a set of black off-road bead lock rims...$@#$@#$@#$@#$@#in'!!!

As for the blue, I want it a nice rich royal blue, like the new PT cruisers, or even the new Saturn SUV's I have seen. Something bright.

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

'Tis be a sad, sad day for myself.

I'm selling the Jeep...

It's getting up there in mileage and I don't feel like fiddelin' around with it anymore, but figure this one out...

I'm going to an 1989 Buick Regal Grand Sport! (wtf?!?!)

Seems like I keep on goin' back in time. But this one was babied so I'm all good for now. (3.1 V-6, every option for 1989 year, moon-roof)

I don't know how to feel about this...

If you know anyone looking for a vehicle let me know - 1,200 (USD) price range!
