this is pro'lly a dumb question, but what would you guys do if you were late for a match, and had to make a run for it? would you be able to push your cart?

Yes, the wheel chair motors are free spining, and they also have a brake on them as well.

Re: Coolest 'Bot Carts

Lifting a robot with power from 12v batterie(s) would be a snap. Anyone ever use one of those deals the appliance installation people have where you plug a vaccum into it and it will lift your refrigerator right up? Its pretty cool, all you gotta do is give your refrigerator a tap and it will slide right across the kitchen. If you just got one of those and got an old (or new, we just like old stuff) inverter you should be set. Just vaccums are kinda loud, and you might have to use multiple batteries.

Re: Coolest 'Bot Carts

All of your carts sound really cool. Our cart pretty much is a dolly. If we every get really fancy, we might even use a bar stool racer that some of us are trying to build and drive that to the competitions and have the robot on the dolly towed to the racer. Our team doesn't really put much work or time into actually building a cart, but all of your carts sound pretty cool, especially the first one, the one powered by the wheelchair motors.

ok well a bot cart, i'm still working on the design for that, however i guarantee that our tool cart, primering in Trenton March 17 is a guaranteed jaw dropper. I'd like to see someone beat it, but you people can be the judge of it.

Re: Coolest 'Bot Carts

Who needs a great cart? We have man power...
I'm kidding of course. We usually end up forgetting ours at events (which is odd, because its rather important ). Believe me, its a pain, but it gives you a great workout (or back problems if your a pessimist.) But I remember a few carts that had music blasting from them and the whole nine yard...it was quite impressive, and created a great entrance every time they brought their bot out to the field.

Team 548 had a cool cart at Nats in 2003. Of course it helped having Blaupunk as one of your sponsors. They had the Astrodome rockin!

I'm sure people in the pits did not find it very cool. FIRST states clearly that you are not to put soundsytems on your carts. It looked nice but I wouldn't recommend other teams doing it.

Good point Ed. If I remember right they only once had turned it up in the Astrodome (probably were told not to it again) the rest of the time they "pumped up the volume" when they left the Astrodome and went for the 1/4 mile walk to the Reliant Center.

Re: Coolest 'Bot Carts

Is it just me, because I remember teams last year putting sound systems on their carts? Personally, I think they are cool at first, but after a while, they seem to get kind of annoying .

Re: Coolest 'Bot Carts

We just got finished painting our cart today. We figured that flames were way to complicated and we didn't want to mess it up with less than 7 days to finish. So we went simple.
Simple is goood

Re: Coolest 'Bot Carts

one the subject of carts, i was wondering if first would allow a cart that you sit on and drive like a car. I came up with an awesome idea after the competition to make a cart to ride on and drive w/a wheel & pedals. We were thinking about making a pnuematic lift platform on it, tool storage, air hose and a sound system just so we have every thing. What i am wonder is if any of this has been banned by first because there is nothing about carts in the rules i think.
