Well I don't really understand what action it does. Are you going to post pics of those parts not shown?

Re: pic: 857 "tetra cannon"

Is that going on your bot? If so how does it get the tetras off the... cannon? and on to the tetra goal thing?

Re: pic: 857 "tetra cannon"

OMG that is awesome. That would be the coolest arm design if there was a way you could aim it to the top of the goal and just fire and it would pop up on that. How would you load that though on the field? Actually, I don't think that's going on your robot, but it looks really cool if you could actually fire tetras with that.

Re: pic: 857 "tetra cannon"

early in the season, i thought of something similar to that, but immediately decided that it would be too heavy, flimsy, difficult to build, etc. and you guys went and did it.

you folks on 857 never fail to impress me.

p.s. i'm still waiting for a reincarnation of the kiwi-drive...maybe this year?

Re: pic: 857 "tetra cannon"

It could very well telescope out from the space in the middle. But then again that only lets you score one at a time unless you get really complicated. I'm also guessing that you will be using the human player a lot.

Re: pic: 857 "tetra cannon"

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words.

We'll post pictures of other parts in due time.

That is (part of) the robot we're building for this season.

It will be able to load from the human player, the autoloader, and the floor.

There will be pictures of the drivetrain eventually.

Re: pic: 857 "tetra cannon"

shooting tetras, huh? very interesting. may be a bit difficult to get them all to go on right, but overall i can see it as a winning design. the ball-launching bots in 2002 worked pretty well.

just remember, with power comes responsibility. one wrong move and you could end up capping one of the judges that will pretty much ruin your chance at judges' award

Before we get a bunch more posts talking about launching/shooting/tossing tetras... It doesn't. We just think it looks like it could.

Re: pic: 857 "tetra cannon"

That's a lot of weight to carry. I'd really like to see it in action!

The car door opener is legal but the inspectors will spend the whole day coming to that conclusion. That's what happened to us last year at least. =P

Re: pic: 857 "tetra cannon"

I think that the arm in the picture will not be able to cap goals. I think they are looking to score points without capping...they might be thinking they can get 3-5 tetras loaded on that and dump them under a goal in the time it takes to get 1 tetra on top of a goal. And with the tetras stacked so nicely on the arm, they should fit under the goals nicely. That would be a great partner with two good capper robots...if it does what I think it does.
