Cool American Robot Episode 3

Hey Everyone,

Episode 3 is finally done! After VERY bad luck with video codecs, and audio codecs, and other compiling issues, here it is. Again I need some of that sweet, sweet input on the episode! Enjoy!

Save target as (75 mb)

PS-sorry about the sound...

Looks good to me, but around 2:30 into the video, it just restarts on my computer. Is anyone else having this problem? Keep up the good work guys, I have really enjoyed watching these, as I am no longer with my team (college).

Re: American Robot Episode 3

THE TRIVIA QUESTION-

It is tough to see in the low-resolution version.

The plaque says “Warning T.5 in effect”

I am glad to see this up here. This was a very difficult episode for us because of many problems. We were not able to use all of our footage because we were unable to edit it. Rick has done a great job and spent a lot of time on these. I too would like to commend him.

There is a lot more footage that should be included in Episode III. Once we fix all of our computers and can edit the footage then maybe we will make a sequel to this episode. If not, you will see it on the DVD.

And thanks to the URI Student Film Association who filmed a lot of the footage, most of which is what caused the problems, but it will make for an AMAZING DVD!

Now we must focus on Episode IV.

Re: American Robot Episode 3

if only my team could spare someone to take some time to film and take pics, we'd have a 2 part mini series, but, since my team consists of less than 20 people, that isnt happening untill we get the camera working 100%

BEAUTIFUL JOB

Re: American Robot Episode 3

Your series are indeed awesome. Your robot is also quite awesome, turns so easily in the video. Our robot has difficulty turning because of the conveyor belt material we got to increase friction works all too well. But I have a question, for your middle wheel, how did you lower it? Our team tried having the chasis low rider by flipping it over, but when we try, the hole they have for the bolt becomes higher, so it is useless. Did you make your own mount for that wheel, and if so how much lower is it?

Thanks for the kind words about our cinematic excapades, as well as our chassis.

I also encountered the problem with the middle hole being improperly aligned when we flipped the chassis. It wasn't so bad because we had to enlarge the holes anyway to accomodate bushings. We just threw the frame on a mill and made new holes that were off center (lower) than the existing frame holes. Because the middle one was so far off, we just used one of the ajacent holes, so our middle wheel is actually 1" off center. We also lowered the middle wheel by 1/16" to make steering a bit easier. You could probably also simply make a bracket that holds the bearing or bushing and place the hole at whatever height you like.

Also, if you have too much friction when turning, you may consider changing the material on one set of wheels.

Best of luck!

Rob

Re: American Robot Episode 3

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Here's a deal for everyone. Right now im in my living room layed up because I just got my 4 wisdom teeth pulled. I am willing, with your support of course, to put up all the RAW FOOTAGE we have. Thats right, no captions, no music, no anything. Only PURE Un-Rickified footage. I figure we will get alot more questions and have some better discussion that way. SO DO YOU WANT IT! (By the way I'm hopped up on vicadin...)
