Prom = alot of $$

Ok I understand that there are probably a lot of similar threads. But I did search and I could not find any like this.

Now down to the question. I was wondering if you guy had to pay to go to your PROM. And where dose your prom take place at (gym, civic center, etc.) and do you receive gifts at the prom (wine glasses, picture frames) ??

Re: Prom = alot of $$

Yes we had to pay. It was like $40 or 50 a ticket, it took place at a nice hotel in the area, and we did get wine/champagne glasses this year.

Re: Prom = alot of $$

yes we have to pay at our prom as well. This year the cost is going to be around $50 which is the highest it has been ever. The high cost for this year is because we have rented a very nice country club type place.

Our prom is $80 or $85, can't remember which, and I think it's held at the Getty Center or somewhere similar this year.

Re: Prom = alot of $$

I remember prom. I was dating a junior my freshman year. He dumped me on the way home from prom in the car and then hooked up with my best friend.

But he did pay for me, so I lived. Probably between $30 - $50. Usually at a ballroom or hotel.

I interpreted that as it goes up weekly.

IIRC, Irmo's tickets last year were in the $25 per person range. It was held at this banquet place near the State Fairgrounds. Facility was great, but the DJ was meh. (Is it a crime to want some slow-dancing?!)

And then add in the tux rental, dinner, the waffle house run afterward, and such, and I'm glad I had a job back then! @_@

Of course, I do hope that any gentleman you happen to be going with is covering the bill. Old school isn't completely dead, right guys?

Re: Prom = alot of $$

For my prom, I bought the tickets, my dress, and boutonniere; Joe paid for dinner, the corsage, and rented his tux. The tickets were $45, I believe, and prom was held at the Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton. It was ... mediocre at best. The decorations were practically non existent, the photographer stunk and there was (for the first year ever) no live band - only a crappy DJ who refused to play anything but rap music. After two hours, we left.

DJ's prom (the first prom I went to) was much more fun.

Re: Prom = alot of $$

I never knew the price for our tickets, considering in freshman year my friend took me with him, and he paid for both our tickets and refused to tell me the price, and in sophomore year I got in for free to help with setting up and serving food and whatnot.
This year I'm unsure of price, but I think it's between $30-$40. We get souvenirs, but we're unsure of what they'll be this year. Last year it was a cool mug, then the year before it was a cool candle holder with star cutouts all on it. Prettyness, they were. *nodnod*

Ehh, sounds all too familiar in ways. Anywho, my high school's proms/balls were rediculous. The hosting class (either Junior or Senior) wanted to rip off everyone else as much as possible. Tickets were $35-$50, they put up really chessy decorations, and that was it. On a RARE occurance that a memoriabilia was offered, you paid additional, photos were additional $25+, plus dress, tux rental, flowers, shoes, hair, nails, dinner, etc, etc. Then the host class took the ticket money paid for the really cheap decorations in the high school gym (which my senior class decoration comittee had to pay for out of their pockets) - and the rest of the money went towards the VERY few kids who participated in senior week activities and senior trip.

On the other hand, wait till college formals. Much nicer, cheaper, etc. University usually hands out a chunk of dough to help host the event.

Ours was $12 but it was in the gym and with a DJ that would play nothing but crap so me and my friends left and watched family guy until the after party where they had free bowling.

Re: Prom = alot of $$

I think our prom tickets are like between 20-60 dollars or sumthin like that...we have prom at this hyatt hotel place then after we go on a cruise in Chicago at Navy Pier from 11-2 or sumthin..so i think for the cruise (after party) its about like 20-30 dollars for that tickets. im not totally sure because this is my first year going. But i really dont care how much money it is because its totally worth the money.

hehe, but don't forget that guy who tried to rap... poorly... although i liked my hammond prom more because i knew more people there, my robotics prom in appleton was very nice, guys were gentlemen and i got to go on a train.

my senior prom was held in a hall at a banquet center, and tickets (which included dinner) were around 50 a couple. my dress however (which was the only prom dress i actually bought, not borrowed or got on uberclearance for like 12 dollars) set me back $350, but since I went to two proms I got to wear it again. Adding flowers and a tux, you're looking at... alot of money, but I wouldn't have changed a thing about my senior prom experience(s) for the world.
