Suggestions on a Logo

My robotics team is working closing with the school's art club, (in fact, all art club members also count as Robotics team members) and I just saw the T-shirt design yesterday. It is a very sweet looking picture for a T-shirt, they did an excellent job. I have a question though, I asked if they had a Team logo, and they suggested that the T-shirt design should also be the team logo as well. I think the design is awesome for T-shirts but, in my opinion, does not satisfy the properties of a corporal logo used to put on other things like the team donation form. The design is a 5-color design (I have not asked permission to say what the picture looks like, so I'll refrain from doing that at this time) and is fairly busy. I'm attaching something a little more of what I had in mind. It was done completely in Paint. If any of the hundred of you out there that are awesome at photoshop would like to touch up this very rough design for me I'd be grateful. From what I remember from my digital design class I took, logos should start at the bottom left corner and end at the top right corner. I know I am catching myself on my own "it has a lot of colors and is busy" rule, so suggestions are appreciated. If nothing else, it will make a very cool button!

Thanks.

BTW- you may need to save the picture, open it in Paint, and look at it in Large view to get more of what I was going for.
