Question Fisher Price Moters

Team 1008 is wondering if any of the other teams are having problems with the fisher price moters. Ours seam to be over heating when stalling while turning the robot. If you have any advice please leave me a message

Thank you,

Michael Radcliffe

I would suggest not using them for the drive train. Our team ran through 7 of those when we used them in conjunction with drill motors on the drive train two years ago

Re: Fisher Price Moters

I would suggest use them wherever you like, just don't come anywhere near stalling. In fact, don't even go below 50% of free speed. The FPs this year are actually designed to be 6V motors. They draw a monstrous amount of current even at half stall. There are numerous threads discussing the 2005 FP motor, read them if you want more info.

Michael,

You are definitely not the only person who has been experience overheating problems with the 2005 Fisher Price motor. Take a look at these threads;

http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=32286
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=32442 // lots of good info here
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=32372

To summarize, these motors do not react well to stall conditions at 12V. We've limited them to 9.6V in test runs, and still had difficulties at stall and near stall conditions. We've now changed the application of the motor, to avoid running close to stall.
