Pivoting Arm

Who has made a pivoting arm before? Does anyone have pictures?

I'm having trouble figuring out how to build the pivoting base. I can imagine somewhat how to do it, but I don't know how to sythesize my conceptions with actual parts. Thanks, all!

the latest example i've seen is team 221's base, but there's also bound to be more at http://firstrobotics.uwaterloo.ca/resources.php or http://www.firstrobotics.net.

Re: Pivoting Arm

we were going to make one this year but it was too complex for 2 weeks left in the build season so we ditched the rotating base.

Re: Pivoting Arm

I don't think we have the resources to go after it either, but it was nice to see a visual on how it can be done. Thanks!

Re: Pivoting Arm

Make a plate with a spindle in the center for the anchor.

Then make a circular disc upon which to mount the arm. Either fix a large sprocket centrally to it or make the edge of the disk toothed. The central axis of the disc should have some sort of bearing and collar and you probably want either a slippery surface material or rollers on the contact face.

Mount a drive motor such as a van door motor horizontally with an appropriate sprocket and let the chain turn the base disc. Install some sort of limit switches on the mechanism so you don't unscrew all your wiring

Voila. been there-done that

Good luck
