Protecting the electronics is a smart idea. However, you are better off using polycarbonate instead of aluminum.

Thanks for the responses. We're probably going to just mill a rectangular hole in the center of the hood and screw on lexan to cover it. And that aluminum article, even though it's around 6 monhts old, is pretty interesting. It's only a matter of time....

Think....transparent titanium?
