Angry Israeli animations are not to be judged

I would like to tell you about something that really annoyed me.
last night, at 12 am and something, our mentor and chairman of FIRST Israel, told me he recieved an Email saying that all of the 12 Israeli teams animations shall not be included in the AVA competition.
As an animator I feel very disappointed, since i have worked hard & long hours for the past month on our team's animation. I made our animation from scratch, without help from mentors (we don't have any mentors who know 3dsmax), I poured my heart out into this animation, and now it's not even going to be seen?
what disturbed me even more, is that they decided not to include us in the competition, only a few days before the animation deadline.
Does anyone know the reason for this?
Does it seem right to you?

Re: Israeli animations are not to be judged

I don't know of a reason, and that does seem to surprise me of FIRST. I'm sure there's a good explanation, but I do not think it is fair. Maybe you should contact FIRST and see what the reason behind that is.
Hope it turns out okay for you and the other Israeli teams!

That doesn't seem right to me. I totally sympathize with your tickedoffedness. I'd be angry, too.

Unhappy Re: Israeli animations are not to be judged

Yov,

(I moved your thread to the general forum; more people - who don't use the portal - will see it that way.)

In regards to your situation, I think it is very unfair on FIRST's part; not only that you are not allowed to compete, but that they waited so long to tell you you couldn't!! The animation competition is part of the FIRST competition, as much as Chairman's, Highest Rookie Seed and the challenge itself are.

Did FIRST give any reason as to why you were not allowed to particpate?

Keep us updated.

Hi all, my name is Gal Genut and Im from Aviv High School in Ra'anana Israel.
I just want to say that I completely agree with yov, and i want to add and tell u all that FIRST also prevent us from competing in the website competition. this update was a real trauma for some of my team members who did all they can for the website in the last 6 weeks.

I really hope that FIRST will change this update or atleast will give reasonable reasons for that surprising decision. we read all the manuals again and again and we didnt find anything that could prepered us for this.

anyway, u can judge our website yourself;

Just because FIRST won't officially reconize your work does not mean you guys cannot reconize the animations and website designs amongst yourselves.
A couple of years ago the animators were so mad at Autodesk for bungling the animation awards that thought actually crossed our minds. Make it a mini -Oscar like event or something (best animation, best music, best production design ect.). Have some fun with it.

Re: Israeli animations are not to be judged

I'll wait and see what Dave says, but right now, with no explanation, it seems very unfair. I would understand if they told you this Jan 9th, but this late into the game, it's not right without an explanation.

i agree with ed, don't let this stop you. get everybody together and have a showing of the animations. the animators are supposed to be the regional judges anyway. maybe you could have every team pitch in a little money towards a trophy.

You can easily design a nice trophy from scrap meterials from around the shop (we have for the awards to be given out at the Finger Lakes regional to other teams). It doesn't have to cost much at all.

I dont know how you can stand this. If all of a sudden today I got an email saying "sorry the robot you and five other people each put 250 hours into wont be allowed to compete" I think I would go crazy. I am really sorry to hear this, and I would love to know the reasoning behind it.

Re: Israeli animations are not to be judged

hi all. Rich closed the other thread so im posting this cheerful message here.

First, the most important message - I was told from reliable sources that the animation and website competition are back! I really thanks all of u that wanted to help, and also tnx to FIRST management that understood our feelings about this issue and helped us.

Second, I wanted to present my team website again - www.avivrobotics.net
and I want to call all of u to represent your teams in our knowledge test. also I wanted to say that the banner exchange program that we are working on in our site is almost ready and Im calling all of u to register.

again, Im thanking all of u that helped us and also im thanking FIRST.
