Re: Pre-ship scrimmage at Chatsworth high, comments thoughts.....

Small bugs can bog down even the best of us, but we simply could not get enough time on the field with all the problems with the arena controls and soforth. The matches started over two hours late, and at least for the first few matches it was 35 minutes between, and in our first match we had no data/radio problems that no one could address because the schedule was too far behind. In a total of 4 hours of attendance, we got about 50 seconds of driving time and two matches observed. Our time there was mostly waiting. At the current rate of matches, we would have been waiting almost two hours for another two uncertain minutes. So, we left at 1:45pm and went back to school and practiced non-stop until 6:00 PM.

Nothing against the organizers of the event, it just made more sense for us to get the most time we could on our machine.

So, does anyone have a synopsis of the rest of the matches?

Actually, yeah. We played until everyone played at least 3 games and then
had the top 4 teams choose 2 more for 4 alliances. We had a playoff and it ended in 294, 1682 and another team winning (our cable for our arm died out the final match) It was funny, when the match first started, our autonomous was very messed up so we went straight ahead and moved our arm up, which pulled the big center goal off the carpet and knocked it over. It was awesome.

I only got to see the first match. It was pretty funny when nothing happened during autonomous mode. Anyways, I just wanted to thank whoever helped our team (1160). We had a few problems that people were kind enough to help. That's what makes US FIRST so good.

Ya, that was us alright. Our hand made spool actually malfunctioned and the cable that was supposed to wound up on it got really messy and the cable just got everywhere. Oh and for the autonomous mode. What you forgot to say Michael was that we have the same autonomous mode. If there is anything that by chance happens to get in front of the arm, it will just pick it up, not knowing what it is. No one actually had a camera working during autonomous mode. But just wondering, has any other team gotten their camera to work and was able to track a tetra, pick it up, and cap the goal in 15 seconds?

I enjoyed the scrimmage a lot. It may have seemed a little low key for some teams, but the purpose was purely to practice, the finals and score keeping were just icing on the cake.

besides all the technical problems my team found the scrimmage very useful. But we were also part of the winning alliance. It was the number one seed 1682, us, 399, and 294. It was great practice for us drivers.

Re: Pre-ship scrimmage at Chatsworth high, comments thoughts.....

I just want to quickly thank you all for attending the scrimmage. It got off to a rough start because the control system was first of all brand new, we had new people to put it together, and second, a few miscommunications caused it to be unfinished in the morning. All in all though, once we got the ball rolling I felt that the competition went quite well.
I hope you all had a good time, the turnout today was far beyond what I had expected. Special thanks to team 1682 and 399 on a successful alliance. Also thank you to Sean, our lead referee, Michael, our referee who did the flips and somersaults for me, the referees and table managers for making my life a little easier, and finally to Wendy Wooten and the whole gang at team 22 for hosting another successful event.

Good job George!!! Your post made sense after reading your name! You did a good job on your last 'MC' for the scrimmage. Congrats.

Re: Pre-ship scrimmage at Chatsworth high, comments thoughts.....

702 had fun, we found out how we stack with everyone else and we were very happy with our performance, only got a chance to upgrade and fine tune but no trouble shooting the whole day and no bugs. its what you get when your robot has no pneumatics.

thanks to team 22 for hosting the event but we had to cut it short so i didnt get a chance to see 22's robot, anyone got a pic?

I saw it but didn't take any pictures, it was back in the shop. Apparently they stripped a gear Friday or Saturday and won't get a heat treated replacement until today at the earliest.

It definitely shows 60/254 lineage, but that's all I'll say

I want to thank everyone for coming to participate. Again we are sorry for the problems with the control system but it got fixed and now we now foe next time. I hope that everybody got a chance to run their robot enough so that they can figure out any problems.

Our robot was not their because the gears for our arm gearboxes were not ready so there was no point in putting out just a driving base. Thanks again to all.
