Thoughts on 2005 UTC Scrimmage

I'm just curious to see what everyones reactions were to the UTC Scrimmage today. Looking for general thoughts on it, good, bad or indifferent. Thanks.

Aces High puts on a great event every year, thank you to all of them, all of the volunteers who helped them and the crew from FIRST who assembled and dismantled the playing field!

I thought there were a lot of great designs in the robots that were there. Some were very quick. The ones that grabbed multiple tetras seemed to do well.

As a spectator, I was so engrossed in watching what our alliance was doing that I kept forgetting to see what the opposing alliance was doing!

The human player element isn't as simple as it appeared - I guess it isn't always easy to tell when your robot is in place from where you are standing? And I think they have to be VERY careful about following the rules.

Maybe someone can comment on the penalties that were assessed?

I think the scrimmage was awesome. It was so much fun. I think teams will be able to use this in coming up with refined strategies and aspects of there robots. I cant really say much from a spectator stand point. I was up on stage during our matches and runnnin around our pit when we werent competing. As many can tell its goin to be a really low scoring game compared to last year. For example the lowest score today was 1-0. . It just happened to be our team during the finals. We got lucky with the penalties. But it just goes to show that human players and drivers have to be heads up on where everything is at the loading station. I want to take the time to congratulate all the teams who went and duked it out. It was great to see all the different designs and give a slight glimse of what the competition is going to be. Good Luck to all and hopefully we will get a chance to compete with each other at the regionals.

I have one question about the scrim on sat. Did any one notice that when u came of the pad ur robot didnt power down. If i rember right i noticed ur robot started moving before u got back on the pad. I am gessing they had tec probloms or somthing, it gave your team a slite advantage in maches (not in are mach they problom was fixed i gess)

that still wouldent make any diffrence in ur great job...I love how fast ur robot worked. it was quite a show

Yes, there was a problem with pads #'s 1+2 on the Red alliance side. They were wired incorrectly, so that when player 2 stepped off his/her pad, the robot on #1 would be incapacitated. The same happened vice-versa for player #1 for #2's robot. As far as I saw, it wasnt a HUGE deal as the HP's were able to get back to the pad before the drivers noticed what was happening. Weird scenario, hope it's fixed A.S.A.P..

I had a confirmation from some one on the field that the red alliance pads were wired wrong so in early rounds the wrong robot was getting disabled. Hopefully they take care of that before the competitions.
