Anybody starting to think scores will be higher than previously thought?
Teams havn't had to worry about a multi-faceted robot this year... well... as much as previous years-- I think any tetra shoving robot will have a very rough time surviving a regional. With all the pictures posted of very high and sturdy capping designs, I'm starting to believe most--prob all- goal tetras will be capped during a match-- and we will actually play line wars - FIRST will be happy. I'm expecting to see matches in the 60-70's now. Any thoughts?

Nope.
I firmly believe there is no way that a team can access that many tetras. Sure, if you can stack seventeen like Wildstang, that's awesome. But that means you have the technical capability to--not that you would be able to. If you do the math, it's really just not practically possible for a robot to access that many tetras in that short a time. Even the ones that can hold multiple tetras will have to wait about 8 seconds per tetra if they are loaded manually. --Petey |

I don't think so. Just from watching the scrimmage on Saturday, at most there were 2 or 3 tetras per goal.

i think it really depends on if the alliance has a bot that can cap the vision tetra and can figure out a way to work together efficiently. i'm thinking 40-50s max but you never know. i'm sure nats will pump things up and may get up to 80s

Well, speaking from experience, the highest score in one of the final matches at the UTC scrimmage was 36. Im not saying that it cant get any higher than that, but I think that avoiding penalties this year is going to be really hard, from a driver's standpoint.
One of our matches, the final score was 1-0. I think the judges actually rounded our alliance's score up to 0, because of all of the penalties that were issued. However, I think that with a really good alliance, and some serious strategy, some matches will be able to pass 50-60 points. ![]() |

Yes, there will be a few matches that will reach the 70s, but they will be few and far between. They will also involve a robot that stacks multiple tetras at once against a weak opposing alliance.
8 seconds per tetra? That is going to be slow. I definitely saw teams taking 5 seconds or less to manually load a tetra (230). And the auto load zone will go as fast as the robot can get out and back into the load zone. |

No, the auto load zone goes as fast as the volunteers who are reloading the load zone go. --Petey |

Re: Anybody starting to think scores will be higher than previously thought?
Having watched the PNW practice tournament, I think scores in the 30s and 40s are going to be lot more common. Those tetras are slippery little things, and even the best robots are going to fumble them sometimes. Add in the fog of war with five other 'bots in the same arena, and scoring is going to be modest.
How about one of those 12-foot-tall towers with its horizontal element extended to place a tetra getting nudged briskly from behind at just that same moment? There is going to be lots of mayhem that doesn't even violate the rules. Unless I'm coaching I don't intend to be standing within 10 feet of the field... |

Re: Anybody starting to think scores will be higher than previously thought?
After testing with our robot alone i have a few predictions:
Mean scores will be 25-35 points Upper end scores will be 40-55 points Finals points will push 60-75 points National high scores near 80-90 points With very little practice (and of course no other robots harassing us) we were able to conistently hang 5-6 tetras and be back in the home zone (this does not include the 1 hanging during autonomous). If we are not back in the home zone at the end of the match about 7 tetras are possible. Also, with more driver practice and time spent fine tuning machines teams will easily be able to hang more tetras than this each match. Just my $.02 |

Re: Anybody starting to think scores will be higher than previously thought?
I'm thinking this way, there are going to be three robots. Even if they are extremely slow, say about 30 seconds per tetra. They will be able to cap about 4 in the 2 minutes. Now if three robots each cap four goals, not counting any line bonuses, then that number is already into the thirties. Now this is not counting in penalties, but I"m expecting atleast 30-40 for normal game and maybe up in the neighborhood of 100 if you run into a really good alliance with good auto+speed.

Re: Anybody starting to think scores will be higher than previously thought?
I can see the scores approaching the 50s, but I see the averages to be around the 40s. There ARE a lot of robots out there, but it also means more time for robots to get in each others way. If a team can cap 6 tetras in a match, they are going pretty well.
