Instant Messenger Subscription Alerts?

I know it's possible to set subscription alreats for e-mail but would it be possible to set them for AIM, or another IM program. I know Brandon's To Do List could probably wrap around the playing field three times, but I thought I would throw the idea out there anyway. It could be convienent for other IM addicts like myself.

Re: Instant Messenger Subscription Alerts?

Yes, there are a few things you can do.

If you just want a to-do list that reminds you to get off AIM, you would have to obtain Trillian Pro, which I use. There is a plugin called "Do Me" that reminds you every few minutes to do stuff.

However, if you put on the to do list to uninstall it cause you feel like staying on AIM it's not very effective

I'm not sure if that's what you're going for.

Sorry about not being exact. I mean subscribed threads. In your cp you can set email alerts for when people reply to a thread you've posted in. There's often threads that I post in that I'd like to follow up on but by the time I'm back on chiefdelphi (with time to reply) the threads are long buried (especially this time of year when there's a new post every 30 seconds) and I forget about them. Email is good but that has a tendency to get buried as well, but if I could get a quick IM alert then I could go reply really fast and go back to what I was doing. Of course, I probably don't need any more distractions when I'm on my computer for school purposes, but it would still be cool.

Re: Instant Messenger Subscription Alerts?

The hard part would be getting the PHP talking to the instant messanger client. I believe that it's possible, but it's fairly intensive. Given that CD is already under a bit of a strain, I wouldn't count on it.

E-Mail is probably the best we're going to get, for now. I'd suggest looking at email notification programs that sit in your tray .. they beep, or flash, or pop up a message when you get a new e-mail.

Or use an instant messenger program that program that notifies you of e-mail
