What Motors/Drivetrains are YOU using?
I just wanted to find out what kind of motors and drivetrains other teams have. Maybe you can even share your secret plan, like we (Team 100) has a secret motor design show in the picture attached (introducing the new Hemi V8 pneumatic powered engine... MUAHAHHAHA). No, but really we have a swirve drive with 2 powered wheels in the center of the robot and 4 omni wheels on the corners. How bout the rest of you?

Re: What Motors/Drivetrains are YOU using?
Oh ya we were also thinking somewhere along the line of an Aston Martin D12 Vanquish S engine
. 6 speed. 0-62 in only 4.8 sec. Top speed more than 200 mph...It's shweeeet .![]() Actually We used the gearbox in the KOP and have 4WD with 2 onmis in the front to help with turning. |

Re: What Motors/Drivetrains are YOU using?
Killer bee's (T33) style four speed automatic with a custom designed motor combiner integrated into the gearbox. Each gearbox is powered by two CIM motors and power is delivered to the ground by a ~30" tank track Assembly. The robot contains two gearboxes modules and two track modules. Each piece of our drive train is held in with four 1/4-20 bolts and the entire drive train can be removed in about 2 minutes (two people working).

Re: What Motors/Drivetrains are YOU using?
You guys will never make the weight limit, this is the way to do it.
![]() The horsepower is a little light so we might up it to something like this: ![]() But seriously, we are using our brand new HexaMax R2 six motor two speed drive system. |

Re: What Motors/Drivetrains are YOU using?
We have a six wheel drive, two speed transmission drivetrain that is powered by two CIM motors on each side (4 in all). It also has zero-turn capability.

What is that second pic, Sanddrag? Some sort of power plant?

Re: What Motors/Drivetrains are YOU using?
lol is that like the engine for the titanic or something... !
we use KOP tranny w/ a 6 wheel drive center wheel offset for fast turning |

From the Website: "The Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C turbocharged two-stroke diesel engine is the most powerful and most efficient prime-mover in the world today. (...) These engines were designed primarily for very large container ships. (...) The cylinder bore is just under 38" and the stroke is just over 98". Each cylinder displaces 111,143 cubic inches (1820 liters) and produces 7780 horsepower. Total displacement comes out to 1,556,002 cubic inches (25,480 liters) for the fourteen cylinder version. (...) Even at its most efficient power setting, the big 14 consumes 1,660 gallons of heavy fuel oil per hour." More power. Last edited by Rick TYler : 26-02-2005 at 17:49. |

Re: What Motors/Drivetrains are YOU using?
This thread is a little serious and a little funny, so i would consider it both. By the way, very nice pic of the engine the size of a blimp. That had me laughing for a while. (If you made it under the weight limit with that thing, no1 would stand a chance).

I'm gonna say, hooray for the gearbox included with the kit! It's what we used.

Re: What Motors/Drivetrains are YOU using?
We turned the kit gearbox into a two speed with two CIMs.

Our robot is using one CIM per side, two-wheel drive, kit transmissions. And now that I think of it... Ockham's Raizor (2005) vs. Bob (2004) Motors (drive): 2 CIMs vs. 2 window motors Motors (other): Van door vs. Van door What did the other motor do: Winch vs. Winch The backside: Casters vs. Casters So I guess Karthik's notion that the 2005 robots would just be an evolution of the 2004 robots is about right. This year, we just happened to perfect the three-motor-with-a-winch-and-casters concept. Last edited by Billfred : 27-02-2005 at 14:07. Reason: improving word choice |
