We going to Great Lakes, West Michigan and Buckeye. We decided to go to three because we weren't automatically registered for Nats this year... want to make sure we have 3 chances to get there

Just Palmetto for us this year.

But if we win regional champions (or Chairman's, for that matter), I won't be sleeping until either the team decides not to go or we have the money needed to get there.

1. Usually, pasta dinners work like this.
2. Buy pasta. Buy sauce. Buy bread.
3. Sell tickets for $10.
4. Feed people. Lots of people.
5. ...
6. Profit.

I'm going to VCU, which is on campus.
I'm also going to Annapolis, which is 1.5 hrs from home, 10 minutes from my girlfriends aunts house, and durring my spring break.
I'm also going to Atlanta. I've been working lots and saving to be able to go.

Re: How many rigional(s) is your team attending?

We are attending one regional..---the Chesapeake Regional.

And we raise our money by doing sponsorship hunts. We do corporate fundraising, and next year I'm going to see if we can do some other sorts of things throughout the school like candy sales, valentine stuff, etc.

close wetzel, but not exactly how we do ours.....

We hold ours in the basement/banquet hall type thing of our team leader's basement thus space=free
We then try to get food donated (a few mentors are friends with people at sauce & bread places) or buy it at Sam's Club (Cosco's, BJ's, whatever your bulk food seller is) and buy whatever else you need

The bonus about if you hold it at a place like church, or rather, any place with a kitchen, you already have cups, plates, silverware, etc for you to use.
PLUS they also have tables, chairs, etc

So thus, you set up in the morning, cook begining in the afternoon and into the evening......serve and the clean up.

Advertise everywhere you can, including the place you're having it.
Do a robot demo while people are eating, if possible.
Serve food family style, it's just easier, and forces people to get to know each other

MOST IMPORTANT, designate a time for your WORKERS to eat, either in shifts or all at once before cleaning up, after everyone else has gone. Don't forget they need to eat too!!

anything else? just let me know...pasta dinner are fun

How many regionals is your team attending?

After reading somewhere that a team will be attending 3 regional competitions as well as nationals this year, I became very curious as to how many regionals each team will be competing in.

I'm sure I could find that information at usfirst.org, but the reason for this thread is that I would like to know the reasoning behind each team's decision to attend [insert # here] regionals.

I would also like to know how teams that attend more than one regional pay for such a venture. I'm sure some teams do their own fund-raising, others have solid corporate sponsorship, others have university grants, and so on. But even so, attending additional regional competitions isn't cheap ($4,000 a pop after the first one) and add a trip to Atlanta for nationals at $5,000 and you've got yourself one hefty budget. Of course, that doesn't even include any of the travel expenses associated with hauling, accommodating, and feeding a team ranging in size from 4 to 60 people. If your team doesn't do fund-raising to pay for additional regional competitions, how do you convince your sponsor(s) to throw down an extra $4,000 so your team can go to a second, third, or even a fourth regional? This question seems all the more relevant if your team is already planning to attend nationals.

So, in short, please let us know:
  • WHY your team will be attending 1, 2, 3, or more regionals this year
  • HOW your team will be paying to attend more than one regional (if you do so)
Thanks in advance.

-Andrew
