Auton. mandates no operator input, so I would have to ask that you further clarify your question.

Re: two joysticks

We had our robot running on two joysticks. One for driving and one for working our arm along with a driver on each joystick. The programing mentor came in and told us we couldn't use two joysticks because of a programing issue. When he was programing atonomus it wouldn't work with two joysticks.

Re: two joysticks

We use two joysticks one for arm operator and one for driving operator and our autonomous works perfectly fine.. so there should be no trouble.

Re: two joysticks

hmm quite strange of a problem, we always have two joysticsk hooked up to our Operator Interface and our autonomy still works fine. I'm pretty sure teams all around the country dont have any problem with two joysticks and autonomy.

It sounds like the mentor doesn't fully understand how to do something. Why don't you suggest that he/she post for help in the programming forum. Or there will probably be people willing to help at your regional.

Re: two joysticks

There shouldn't be a problem with two joysticks during autonomous mode. We use 3 joysticks, 2 for drive one for arm, and we don't have any problems with the autonomous code.

Re: two joysticks

Just thinking it over maybe there is a code error or a typeo or something causing the autonomous not to work right. Joysticks should have nothing to do with this.. but one think that could be wrong is that the trim isn't set right on the joystick... but that wouldn't affect just autonomous it would be all the time until adjusted. Just ask someone if the problem continues. Good luck!

Excuse the unhelpful response, but that makes no sense in a number of ways. Autonomous control uses no joysticks.

Even if the presense of joysticks mattered, the number should be irrelevant. The signals coming from all four joystick ports will be identical (i.e. inactive) during autonomous mode.

Maybe he's talking about one vs. two joysticks for the drive mode? If he's using the default code as a basis, its color-seeking function assumes single-joystick drive. That can be changed without much difficulty, though it doesn't need to be. The section of the default program running during autonomous is completely separate from the teleoperated mode section, and they don't have to be anything like each other.

Re: two joysticks

Why is everyone using 1 for driving and 1 for the arm? Are we the only team attempting to use the triggers/buttons?

Sure, many teams use the buttons on the joysticks. For instance, our throttle has a trigger for turbo mode while driving, which allows for more sensitivity at low speeds without restricting the maximum available speed.

Because it's hard for 1 person to think about two things at once. At least that's why we're doing it. About the code issue, are you sure your mentor isn't trying to get input from joysticks during auto.? They joysticks are not supposed to work during auto.

Re: two joysticks

Yeah, we use four josticks(tank drive and two for the arm), and I'm pretty sure that there are no auton' issues.

We use two joysticks to drive and a joystick for our arm and we haven't ran into any problems. I agree, clarify your question.
