A Word Of Caution
I never want to cast negative waves, but I must issue a caution message.
To all human players and all personnel near the playing field. KEEP ALERT AND WATCH OUT FOR SWINGING ARMS OF ALL SIX ROBOTS I still carry a vivid memory of our robot absolutely decking a human player in the Chicago regional in 1997, and that arm was short in comparison to this year's arms. Humans. Yes your robot is disabled when you are loading tetras, but there are five other robots still running. When a robot makes a spin move with a ten foot long arm............................. I wish everyone a very safe and successful competition. Bill Beatty |

Re: A Word Of Caution
Yup Ditto,
My bad scenario is an HP making a run to the far LZ and getting jabbed by a bot coming into the closer LZ. Or an HP ran to the far LZ and didn't see a bot pull into the LZ behind them, then they turn to run back but theres a bot arm there or even another HP headed there way. Hope we have a medic handy... |

Re: A Word Of Caution
When I first glanced at your post, I thought it said, "WATCH OUT FOR 6-ARMED ROBOTS!!" Alas, it was not the hint about your robot which I hoped for.
But I agree. As Steve W said in the "what robots do you fear thread", HPs, judges, referees, and field attendants all need to watch out for what will be an extremely high energy game. |

Re: A Word Of Caution
Hard hats. Buy them and wear them. Get some in a distinctive color and decorate them with your team's logo. They can be as cheap as $5-7 and can save your brane. Trust me. All the top teams will be wearing them this year.
(P.S. This is my 100th post on this BBS. I would like to thank the academy, and my mom, and my agent, and my hairdresser, and, most of all, Junkyard Wars, without which I would not be eyeing every little scrap of technorubble thinking, "I wonder if that can be used to grab a tetra?") |

Re: A Word Of Caution
Make a note to watch for flying tetras as well. I know atleast durring our practices a poorly gripped tetra and a fast spin sent it flying.
