A PimpBot

What is the maximum height that a pneumatic tube(In the stadard kit) can go? I ask, because I want to try and see if I can hook up 4 pnematic tubes to the frame and be able to elevate the bot. Possible bounce it up and down. Can I rig all 4 cylinders to 1 compressor?

Re: A PimpBot

They have 8 inch stroke (ones in kit). And you can run them off one compressor, but you would run out of air REALLY quick. As well as make sure, even if it is for fun, you have the compressor auto shut off.

Re: A PimpBot

Funny you should mention that...1293 was planning on building a robot in the off-season for similar show-offy purposes.

(Something tells me we'll be borrowing a page from 2004 to get the basis for the bounce.)

Re: A PimpBot

We run two pneumatics off one compressor and its fine on air, it's used a LOT (for our grabber) so I'm not sure what you guys mean by it not being able to handle it. (We have 2 storage tanks... if that matters)

The bore of the cylinder matters, along with the length for air consupmtion. The ones for your gripper not being very large I am assuming should not draw hardly any air at all.
We run two small shifting cylinders also, and we run a maximum allowed (2 in"?) bore 8 inch long cylinder. I can shift all I want and we can tilt the arm when necessary and we are fairly ok. If you want to run 4 large bore cylinders at a decent lenght, make sure you have a lot of accumulators.

Re: A PimpBot

We used three 24" pneumatic cylinders two in one motion to lift the arm and one to extend. Lifting those two 24" cylinders took 60 psi. And the single 24" took a little less than 30psi and took the tanks about 8 secs to refill. however our 6" cylinder on our claw took like 5 psi.

I don't think you would want to use 24" cylinders but with 4 smaller ones you could run off of one compressor and 2 air tanks but i would add a 3rd tank and you should be fine.

Re: A PimpBot

last year we used a pnematic cylinder per wheel to raise and lower them to go up and down the steps...we could do up down and up somewhat without having to wait to fill the airtanks again (we used 4 8" stroke 2 or 1.5 " bore)
