I'm sure one or two teams will do it in Atlanta. At Sac, I was suprised how few teams used the camera (well .. even had it mounted). Kudos to anyone who can pick it up using the camera. |

Re: Autonomous at Regionals
At the Rochester Finger Lakes Regional, team 237 could not only track and lift the vision tetra but also position it most of the times in or above a goal. I would be on the look out the the NJ Regional for them to cap a goal with the vision tetra in auton mode.

Amazing how quickly things can change. Anyone remember this thread?

Re: Autonomous at Regionals
The autonomous mode I wrote missed picking up a tetra from the autoloader by a few inches in our best match. In another match the robot nocked the tetra outside of the field. My teams was at the VCU regional.

Re: Autonomous at Regionals
Given the new math libraries, and the support Kevin Watson gave for the encoders and gyros, I was really surprised that not many teams had good autonomous modes. The one best I saw at VCU was the Virginia Tech team who capped the side goal with an alliance tetra every time. With plenty of time to test, I'm sure that many more bots will have great autonomous modes, something to look for at some of the summer competitions.
My team this year decided not to have an arm, so our autonomous consisted primarily of getting to our opponent's side ASAP so we could get in their way. However, we want to put an arm on it for the summer, and I fully expect to have an autonomous that caps several goals in autonomous. |

Re: Autonomous at Regionals
No one at Rochester was able to do it, but as dez250 said, 237 came so close a number of times. So it seems like the consensus from the first week of competition is that no one has been able to track, pick up and cap vision tetra.
I'm interested to see if any team does it this year. |

For those of you that didn't get to watch Finger Lakes, 237 was so close almost every time. The entire crowd was rooting for them every autonomous mode. It was pretty exciting. I hope you get it at Trenton. -Paul |

Re: Autonomous at Regionals
We will be picking up a tetra from the auto loader by the next competion. We have the robot arriving a few inches to the far side of the tetra, so remove a few hundred ticks and we should be right on. We would have done that earlier, but we didn't want to mess up in the finals.

Re: Autonomous at Regionals
we've got knockdown the tetra program, and a cap with the given tetra on a corner goal (which works flawlessly as anyone who saw the finals at UTC can attest). Were working on going to the auto loader and should have that done soon.

Re: Autonomous at Regionals
We had (like many I bet) such high hopes for autonomous especially when we had the robot up and running a week before ship. But everyone wanted to practice, and then it would break and we'd fix it up, and before long autonomous was being left by the way side since we had only one student who can come close to programming. Then on the weekend before ship, our comp-port dongle wasn't working, then our gyro didn't work, then we couldn't get printf to work in auto mode, and when the RC failed to recognize the camera - we gave up on it. Lesson learned for next year - have it figured way in advance if you plan to use it!!
This year we have a set of simple dead rec programs that were written of Friday of the Sac Regional. We may play with our gyro and gear tooth counters some more at Nats. But then again will it give us a huge advantage? Probably not. I still think 2003 was the best auto mode comp - A Race for the Stack of Bins - If you didn't do it, you had to spend the whole match moving / clearing bins. It started your alliance off with such a huge head start. Just think if they had the 2003 Auto mode this year, that would be fun to watch! |

By the way, 492 finished their robot in three or four weeks and had lots of time to work on their programming. They told me that their chassis was welded together on Tuesday after the Saturday announcement, and was rolling in a week or so. They won PNW regional last year, and got to the semis at national. I would expect them to repeat. |
