Amazing Rookies

I wish everyone could have a feeling like I had today.

I've been working with the Finger Lakes Regional New team development committee for 1.5 years leading up to this weekend.

We had 7 rookies from the area attend the regional.
1507 - Regional Finalist
1511 - Rookie All Star
1518
1551 - Judges award
1559 - Highest Rookie Seed and another award... I'll get back to you
1567 - Judges award
1591

1518, 1591 - I can tell you'll be right in the hunt next year.

I am SOOOO proud of all the amazing rookies we had at the Finger Lakes Regional. They ALL stepped up and not only competed with amazing robots, but also fit right in with the t-shirts, mascots, pins and banners.

All year these rookie teams have supported each other, through emails and seminars. I had hoped they were adequately prepared. I had no idea I'd be so blown away.

I hope at some point to be able to share all their amazing stories.

Re: Amazing Rookies

From BAE:

1517, our alliance partners in the finals. Holy cow, you guys were awesome: spirited, competitive, and graciously professional at every turn. I am saddened to be graduating this year for no small reason because I may not be able to attend next year and, if I am, I will miss seeing you guys do well again. You are an example for all rookie teams. Have a blast at nationals!

The second award they got was the GM Industrial Design award for building a simple and efficient robot that worked very well.
They, as well as the other teams you have mentioned, were extremely good at Rochester. They have a lot to be proud of.

--

You also forgot 1547 (Where's Waldo) from Canada, who had a good robot, and was awesome with cheers and spirit all throughout the competition. They got the rookie spirit award.

Now you guys are no longer rookies.
Spread the word to other Ontario county teams and get them interested. We're counting on you guys.

Re: Amazing Rookies

Kudos to Team 1648 Grady HS, Rookie All-Stars at the Peachtree Regional. They had an amazing bot that could reliably stack 3 tetras at one time on the lower goals and stack 1 tetra on the endzone goal in autonomous mode, scoring 4 points in the process. Team 852 wishes to thank them and the Aiken Magic for being our alliance partners. Well done guys!!!

We from 1648 also want to thank Team 852 for choosing us as an alliance partner and their incredible defense play. And of course we also want to thank the guys from 1102 M'Aiken Magic for supporting us with their great robot and support that brought our alliance to rank 2nd : ). Good Job! : )

I didn't forget Where's Waldo. How could I forget Where's Waldo! What an amazing group of young women! I worked in particular with the rookie in the upstate NY area. They are the ones that I'm familiar with, and am so proud of. I'm thoroughly impressed with 1547, and obviously the judges were too.

And I feel the success of this years rookies will only help us in better establishing more rookies to come.

I loved that about the Finger Lakes Regional. What a blend of power house veterans and rookies. I thought it was a great competition.

Re: Amazing Rookies.. 1648

We had a dream team. 1648 deserves all the accolades thay are getting.
832 was a fierce teammate.
Read the play-by play for our alliance (from an 1102 perspective) at our website. I think our teammate was 832 , not 852.
See 1648 in action...
http://www.maikenmagic.com/results.html

Scroll down about 300 lines to get to the allinace picks and matches.
The movie is jumpy but shows the amazing accuracy of the 1648 machine.

Let's Make Magic again sometime.

Re: Amazing Rookies.. 1648

Team 1671 got highest rookie seed and rookie all star award. Plus they had a very creative (and not to mention beautifully decorated) robot. They would use the manual loader to set a tetra on top of the bot, and then they flip their cover up to pour the tetra under a goal. Plus they were quarter finalists!
That team has it made. I like them a lot.

Re: Amazing Rookies

1541 is a great rookie team, they'll be the next great VCU team, I know it. They have a sense of humor that is great, a good robot, and good strategy. It also helps they wish us luck in their signature...

Re: Amazing Rookies.. 1648

yes for sacremento 1671 definitely showed great promise. Their design was simple yet effective as they could easily gain quick control of rows and also were effective at pushing. gj to them, i could see them doing well later
