Re: Have you named your robot?

Our robot is officially MILDREAD 4 (Our school is St. Mildreds) but every year it gets a different, unofficial name.

This year, it was decided at about 23:00 on Monday before ship date that it should be 'Big Bad Bessie.'

Which it is. Unofficially. But she's Bessie in our hearts.

Re: Have you named your robot?

Officially, our follow up to the Bobcat 2004 is...the Bobcat 2005

But I decided we needed a more original name, so I've dubbed it "Gertrude." This is mostly on account of one of our engineers referring to our base as Gertrude while demonstrating a concept that I don't remember.

We eventually decided on Tetraphile although it was close becoming Puma (Red vs Blue Eisode #2).

I thought you'd name it something like "thumper", due to its classic auton.

I thought this year's internal name was "The Finger"

Like how we refered to last year's bot as "The Washing Machine"

2003 was "The Winnebago"

2002 was the "Minifridge"

2001 is the only one anybody actually calls the Bobcat for some reason. The practice bot that year was "Petunia"

We also have the "Hexorcist" from 96 I think.

All these refer to either what it looked like to us or in the case of this year a mechanism that we just latched on to.

Re: Have you named your robot?

This year we named our robot the Housywhere'sit. It's a play on last years name Housywhat'sit, though it doesn't have the same ring to it. We finally are off naming our robot Reggie. (We named our first robot Reggie after Region 1 and it stuck for three years.) It got fairly confusing especially when we brought two robots to an off season.

We like to incorporate word play that has a connection to our team into our Robot names. Any suggestions are welcome for next years robot.

We'll see you in Hartford

Thumbs up Re: Have you named your robot?

Working with a common theme within this years robotics competition, we decided to name our robot "Caution" (or as we like to call it, PMFH (Parking Metre From Hell).

Nice try. We don't name the robot (even unofficially) until AFTER at least one competition, preferably the whole season, and then it gets some name or other like "Plecibo" or "Tank" (2001 and 2002). And where did this name "Pedro" come from?

Re: Have you named your robot?

our robot is named "Tetramajig". It was "Tetramajigger" but from a distance it looks somewhat like a racial slur.

when deciding on the name it wasn't a thingamajig but a tetramajig. It was late, we were sleep deprived.

last year it was "Black Mammoth"

Re: Have you named your robot?

Officially our robot is named The Bulldog 5, since this is our fifth year doing it. But unofficially our Robot is named HERCULES, mainly because we got a lot of help from an engineer that works at United Defense, and they have a tank with the perfect acronym: Heavy Equipment Recovery Combat Utility Lift and Evacuation System (HERCULES). I am going to see if we can get the named changed at the regional, because this year I want to break away from the generic name. For those of you going to the Silicon Valley regional watch out for out Bulldog Mascot suit
