Smile How many Rookie Teams.........

How many Rookie Teams have gone to Regionals, won, then went to nationals?

The reason I ask this question is because, our team, The Ammoknights, are going to Portland, Oregon on Wednesday, and most of the team thinks that we have a very high chance of going to nationals. Either on our Robot or our Website (www.ammoknights.com). So I was just wondering, how many other teams have gone to Nationals as a rookie team?

PS If you did go to Nationals, how well did you do there?

I'm not sure how many rookie teams have won a regional and gone on to nationals, but I'm sure it has happened before. We picked 1648 for an alliance partner and lost in the finals, and they were close matches. But you can also qualify as the Rookie All Star. These are the teams that go from any one regional:
# Regional Chairman's Award winners (1 per Regional) [rookies not eligable]
# Regional Engineering Inspiration Award winners (1 per Regional)
# Regional Rookie All-Star Award winners (1 per Regional)
# Regional Champions (3 or 4 per regional event)
Good Luck at your event

Re: How many Rookie Teams.........

I'm sure that it has happened, but considering that only the past couple years have had restrictions regarding teams going to nationals, it probably is not very many. Also, as with this year, my team, 27 was not a team that was supposed to go to nationals this year. But due to lack of teams registering for it, they opened the registration to everyone and we got ourselves a spot. I also believe that this is how it was last year even though we were pre registered. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: How many Rookie Teams.........

well in 2003 we won the Buckeye Regional with 27(^) and 541. we went on to the nationals and placed around 50th out of 60-70 in the division. we were top notch at the regional and we blew a few transmissions and such at the nationals. one tip, switch out the cheap plastic transmissions or motors once you have a competition and good luck at your first FIRST Regional!

team 1369 won the peachtree regional last year with 1002 and 1057, and finished around midfield (about 30th) in Archimedes division.

Re: How many Rookie Teams.........

last year 1403 got the Rookie All-Star award at the New Jersey Regional, than went on to nationals and got picked, and finished in the Newton Division 12th out of 73 as well as the highest rookie seed. not bad for rookies. and we're coming back for more.

All the awards we won as rookies
2004 NJ Highest Rookie Seed
2004 NJ Rookie All-Star
2004 MD Xerox Creativity
2004 CMP Highest Rookie Seed - Newton Division

Good luck at your competition this year and keep up the high expectations.

You may want to review the 2005 Championship Eligibility at: http://www.usfirst.org/robotics/2005/cmp_elig.htm. There is no website criteria for qualifying.

Re: How many Rookie Teams.........

There's always a few rookie teams that win each year, but it isn't common.

as slickguy2007 said, 1405 won the MD regional (and seeded 2nd). At nationals, we seeded approximately 20th and were picked by one of the teams we beat in the finals at MD and we advanced to the division semifinals.

Re: How many Rookie Teams.........

Any team has a good chance of winning if they build a reliable robot and the team learns to play well.

What I want to know is where the team name "ammoknights" came from?

(I am an old paleontologist by heart and few people I know even know what an ammonite is)

Well, you can interpret 'Ammoknights' any way you want, but this is how we came up with it.

Our school mascot is the Knight....we're Hillcrest Knights. And we live in Ammon, Idaho. So at first we were the Ammon Knights but it just looked and sounded better to cut the N and put it together = Ammoknights

I hope that helps. It's kinda weird how really cool things start out really simple.
