thats amazing to hear for all this help. and yes as much help that we could get from this is as welcome as any thing in a new world! we still have these things to discuss: Date, MC, Price?, location, how many teams, real comp or for fun, where to get field, need volunteers, and so on...

entry could be each team brings a part of the field plus a bit to cover costs. also definitely try to get the mythbusters(I'm trying to get PR to ask them for $$$ for next year) guys to MC it. as for location i say the city but thats only because i live there.

Re: 2005 Rochester Off Season Competition!!!!

there are a couple of things i would like to chime in on here.

i think that resurrecting the Rochester off season would be great! (Kodak used to have one every year) here are a few logistics to worry about. the field control, location, field parts, how many teams, one day/multi day, what game will be played, and the liability of the whole event.

i think that it is great to work on this but just make sure you are covering all the angles so that it will be a great event for all. btw i am pretty sure i can get 73 here and know that 340 is always down for this kind of stuff (even though i don;t officially speak for them)

another suggestion is to contact mike wade, who works for NASA Goddard because he owns a field and does alot of the off season comps.

Mike Wade, NASA Goddard SFC:

mwade@mscmail.gsfc.nasa.gov

good luck and let me know if there is anything i can do to help

Re: 2005 Rochester Off Season Competition!!!!

Alright, we're in. I know the guy that runs 340 & I'm sure I can get him to agree. I can also help locate 1/2 of the field carpet (from the FLRC). If needed I aslo know the guy that was the MC for the spring comp at Edison. I bet I can talk him into it if you want.

340 will be willing to help out however you need. Just let us know. I was thinking about having our team take on a Mini competition but I didin't want to detract from the FLRC.

Re: 2005 Rochester Off Season Competition!!!!

At the risk of shooting myself in the foot, and giving up one of my precious few free weekends , I will go ahead and commit to this now....

I will write up a white paper on what it takes this year to "host" a scrimmage event (adding in all our experience from the pre-ship one that we hosted).

I will include the following at minimum:
Field Wiring Diagram
Radio Controls Information
Recommended Materials List
Field Components List (including high and low cost field items)
How-To's
Hints

If there is anything else teams would like to see in this paper, let me know... ahh let the fun begin!

I will try and have this done before I run off to Cleveland & Toronto, so that all the off season scrimmage teams have plenty of time to plan

Oh & Mirza, We can go to any of the local off season events for sure!

Re: 2005 Rochester Off Season Competition!!!!

That would rock! I'm sure I could talk team 250 into going to it. In fact tonight we are having a meeting, and I will raise the question and see what the interest is in such an event. With an off-season event so close (about 3 hours) I can't see us not going.

Hey Alex,

Nice job in getting people together... I told you " Ask and they will come!" We have a great community up here and I'm sure alot of the rookies this year who could not go to another competition would be willing to take another crack at it. Just have to figure in the time frame.

Re: 2005 Rochester Off Season Competition!!!!

I can give you some advice. For one; don't use the NASA field. You can get one directly from FIRST. They loan them out for free as long as you pay for insurance (which could be a few thousand dollars). You'd need a good tech crew but these new fields are a lot easier to manage than the old ones.

In case people have forgotten, I founded/organize/manage the Beantown Blitz in Boston. In 2003/2004 I ran around the country volunteering at events to specifically learn how they operated. I taught myself and I'd be willing to pass along what I learned to any other post-season event coordinators. Maybe we could arrange for a phone call.
