The same thing happened to me. I got a 6/20 empathizing, but a 9/10 judging people's emotions. So we can tell when someone needs comforting, but we prefer not to do the comforting ourselves.

In one of my engineering classes, we took the
Myers-Briggs test, which is supposed to sort out the different facets of your personality. One of the parts tells you whether you're more "thinking" or "feeling" (whether you make decisions based on logic or feelings). Out of thirty people, only two people were classified as "feeling." Of course, everyone in the room looked at me (the only girl in the class); however, I am a very solid "thinker."

Actually, I'm an ENTP: the innovator!
