Female announcers/MCs?

(I searched for this but I couldn't find anything)

I had a fantastic time competing at the BAE regional last weekend, and some of the best parts of the competition were the great MC and UNBELIEVABLE announcer at the competition. They did a wonderful job, but something stuck out in my mind.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are no female announcers/MCs in FIRST. Why do you think that this is true? I'm interested in people's opinions on the topic, so respond here and let me know!

Arizona Regional had a female MC. So that's not totally true.

Last year in Long Island we had a female announcer.

Yeah, we stole her this year. She was pretty good, although she was gone for a good chunk of time Friday and didn't say too much, but that might be due to the remarkable announcing by Don Knight. I didn't get her name, does anyone know? She's definitely my favorite MC to date. It's funny, after watching VCU and Peachtree on the web last weekend I thought to myself, 'Wouldn't it be nice to have a female accouncer?' It's like FIRST read my mind.

Re: Female announcers/MCs?

>_< I want to be a FIRST announcer when I grow up actually. We'll see how that works out.

I think the most important thing is that females who are interested in the job apply, fulfill whatever requirements there are, and get in there and make an effort.

Re: Female announcers/MCs?

I that the essance of that question lies in the lack of female engineers and females in FIRST and FIRST's efforts to remedy that problem.

you must be talking about Kim Keller who moved to Az. over the winter. We miss her.

But in NJ we still have Shaniqua (sp ?) who this season will be head emcee and who will have for a sidekick....Big Mike ???
