Anyone ever do a wild PC case mod?

Got pictures of it?

I'm totally redoing a current computer one of these days soon and I want to see what kind of wild ideas people have done for a case mod.

It needs to fit on my desk though, shown here:

http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/at...achmentid=2657

I'm thinking of maybe making it a sideways case, so it will fit in the area where the monitor and behind the (black) laptop is.
Any ideas?

Also, has anyone ever made a case out of wood. I know I'll catch flack from Tom from 195 and Ogre from 173 for this one for making fun of using wood (on their robot) so much, but I'm seriously considering it. Just wondering if it is possible, or even safe. (With the heat from the cpu and what not.)

This is the best one I've seen, and it will definitely fit on your desk. http://www.mini-itx.com/projects/mac-itx/

Yeah well our wooden robots are awesome , and definately shouldn't be made fun of.

Yeah, it's fine to make a case out of wood and has been done a few times before. The latest thing I've seen made with wood is an entire laptop case. http://zaverio.net/laptop/index-en.php

A former member of our team cut a MOE Gear window into his MOE Green computer case and put a MOE Green florescent light inside. It is the most beautiful computer case I have ever seen . I wish I had a pic to post

Re: Anyone ever do a wild PC case mod?

i don't know if your into half-life 2 or anything, but this is a wild case mod, and probably the highest qualtity case mod i've ever seen done. http://members.home.nl/gis/ if your doing a case mod, i reconmend 3 things, a creative mind (i'm positive you have one, a plasma cutter (really cool designs), and to check out www.xoxide.com just because you need to start out with a cool case, and they are great for supplies.

Re: Anyone ever do a wild PC case mod?

Making one out of sheetmetal (for PCI cards and such), 8020 (extruded alumminum as seen on our robot) and Lexan would be pretty cool, it go with any type of robust or industrial idea for a case...I'd do it if I had the time and cash to spend on it.

Make a cube case, with some cool status indicators (heat, fan speed, etc.)

Wow. I think I like it as much as a case one of our college alumni did. He made it out of 30 30 extruded ( item, profile 8) and some transparent blue acrylic, much like yours, except you could see everything. Some LEDS and neons topped it off. I wish i had a picture to show you. I wouldn't try to put a sledge through it, but it looked like it could take just about anything else. We quickly ( and badly ) put together our control box to resemble it this year.

Re: Anyone ever do a wild PC case mod?

Not exactly an extreme mod, but there are now enough blue LEDs on my desktop to sufficiently light a room. I'm personally not a big fan of flashy PC cases.. I like them very clean and quiet. I mainly like them clean and quiet because I built my desktop and it was neither. Five or six hard drives are hard enough to keep quiet, but with that many drives, you need to keep them cool, too.. so the giant pile of (supposedly SILENT) fans in my case make it even noisier. Oh, and I absolutely hate windows in cases unless you have an original and impressive cooling system.

My computer case

My case is made of completely transparent acrylic.

I have seen very pretty wooden computer cases made before. Including one that was a humidor.
