Uncrating Wed. Night

It seems to me from the WATSON Challenge thread that this peice of information will help many people register and uncrate their robot at the right time. It is supposed to be Wed. night according to the site info I read in the championship event portion of the FIRST website. Here is the link if you want to see it yourself, I would have missed it if I wasn't looking for shipping labels last week.

Re: Uncrating Wed. Night

What time is "evening"? I'd like to help uncrate our robot, with the other student and mentor but my flight won't be in Atlanta until 7:30 pm.

Re: Uncrating Wed. Night

I like the idea of uncrating on Wednesday because it will be less hectic Thursday morning. But my question is what time is "evening" cause evening for me is most likely different then their definition of evening.

Re: Uncrating Wed. Night

I assume its going to be like 7 or 7:30 not any later because of getting 300 teams registered and uncrated and payed for any overages... everything will take a while and they don't want to make the students stay up the entire night or anything, even though my team will likely be up until 2 or 3 like usual.

Re: Uncrating Wed. Night

But honestly, how does this help? The uncrating of the robot wasn't the problem, the getting all the toolboxes and stuff into the venue was. Once you were in the venue, there was plenty of space. It's still going to be crazy Thursday morning.

Everyone just has to face the fact it is going to take a long time to get all these people, and equipment, into the building for the event and stop worrying about it. Relax, have fun, and be safe and if it takes an hour, it takes an hour. Meet some people in line. Laugh, joke... Whatever it takes.

But, to ease the situation, what FIRST should do is designate ONE door for entry with carts and pit stuff, have a very long roped off line to that door, and let people in one at a time as the elevator can support it instead of just opening 20 doors and letting everyone merge inside the building. It's the merging of these big groups of people which cause all the frustration and "line rage"...

IMHO...

Remember AFTER the Championship Event ended last year? Instead of going back up to the main lobby with all of the pit gear, they had teams go through the area that the robots travelled to get to the field and load up their busses there. I wonder if it would be easier to have everyone unload there on Thursday morning?

Re: Uncrating Wed. Night

to go against what everyone is saying, i Sorta like the idea of uncrating on Wednesday night, although i do see a problem with teams that are getting in on wednesday, IE-us at 1403 but i think uncrating on wednesday makes Thursday morning a little less hectic and chaotic than it already is. But if your uncrating, i'd say you also should be able to bring some of your equipment down to the pits if they do this i think they'd get some more teams in the practise fields faster, and the more the merrier.

Re: Uncrating Wed. Night

I think this is a great idea.

I thought I read that it is uncrating ONLY, no work, no repair, etc.
So, there is no need to carry in tools.

Even if ony 1/2 of the teams are able to come in on Wednesday night, it will make things much smoother on Thursday AM because a lot of the crates will already be out of the way.

I also agree that this is a great idea, but from what I hear, bringing in tools is part of the backup getting into the pits on Thursday morning. So bringing tools in Wednesday evening would benefit everyone even more, so they don't have large tool chests coming in Thursday morning.

We had to ship all of our tools besides laptops and a drill in the crate so we shouldn't have to worry all that much about it. We had to ship everything because its impossible carry that much stuff on an airplane from Oregon.

Now for the big question. How many teams will be getting in early enough to use this advantage. Last I heard, we will be flying in Wednest day night.
