20:1 reduction times around 50 rpm on the van door motor comes out to about 2.5 rpm. I assume this isnt for your drive train (unless you only have one wheel, and you want to go incredibly slow...?) so I have to guess that it is for an arm. It must go awful slow.. but be awful strong !

That is an insanely nice gearbox for your arm. I remember the top/vandoor mounting plate from the other post you had.http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...987#post334987

If that is being used to lift an arm, do you plan on using the robot to stack tetra's and then in the off season to be a car jack?
Nice job.

Re: pic: 696 - What big teeth we have!

It weighs in the 12-13 lb range. I'm not sure exactly. Not visible in the picture is the steel worm and steel worm shaft.

Won't a brass gear get chewed up pretty badly?

It's not brass, it's bronze. And anyhow, we design things to not get "chewed up" at all. Those teeth are at least a good 1/4" tall/deep. And the face width is something lik an inch. We will not have any problems whatsoever with this gear.
