Ah... then maybe we'll have to set up a scoring system where we rate the team's responses, what do you think? LOL

Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional

Chesapeake was one of the best FIRST events I have been to in my four years of FIRST even though Rage and 1027 and 53 absolutly destroyed us in the semis... hahaha... I just wish we put up more of a fight... There was only two things that I didn't like about it... The music could have been louder, because whenever we tried to dance we couldn't tell if the music switched or not... And the field was backwards... hahaha from our view anyway because we were sitting on the other side of the field... But it was a GREAT competition...

FREEDOM!!!

Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional

I had fun at the Chesapeake Regional. It was spectacular to be down there. Meeting lots of new people was great. The MC's did a great job and having it at the US Naval Academy was very cool. I noticed many teams had great spirit including RAGE. Especially during the elimination rounds when our Alliance did the you got spirit cheer across the filed to the TJ Squared Alliance. That was pretty cool. The 121 point match was truly unexpected, because we didn't realize what we did till like a minute after it was over. Also winning the regional was special because it is my senior year. All the teams competed well especially 1507 The Warlocks. Wow what a unbelievable rookie team!!! I like to thank all the teams who lined up with RAGE during the awards ceremony on Saturday to high five other teams. Also thank you to 1027 and 53 for a great alliance. 007,122 and 175 did a great job and I like to congratulate you on your performance. Congrats to Miss Daisy team 341 for their Chairman's Award win, Great Job!!!To all the other teams that was there I wish you good luck in your upcoming competitions.

Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional

I must say, I am rather surprised that no one has mentioned how surprised they were with our 2nd pick, team 53. Considering team 53 was ranked at about 54 of 55 teams at the end of the qualifying matches and then our alliance took the finals, it was truly something spectacular, and proves just how important a team, and their drivers, and their robot, can be because with out team 53 it would have been harder for us to win, this also goes to show that just because a team is low in rank doesn't mean they have a bad bot. Also team 1027 was an awesome pick, and we were lucky to get them as they were number 2 and could have declined if they had wanted to. I was the alliance captain out on the field, yes I know they are 1027 not 1071 like i had said. I still don't know why I said 1071, and I know my team won't let me live that down any time soon I am sure. But ultimately all of the team at the regional were amazing, and extremely good competitors.

Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional

53 was ranked 53.
Jon, you make an excellent point. The rankings can be so deceiving and good scouting is really important.
As Senior Mentor for Maryland, it was the first time that so many Maryland bots have played in the elimination rounds. Really exciting.

we were like praying that we wouldn't be picked so we could have the chance to be picked by you if you wanted to... but we would have been seeded because we moved into like 7th or something after some selections... haha we joked around about losing all our matches on saturday on purpose to be low rank... hahaha but we were joking about that... we had a great time...

haha and it was funny when you said 1071...

we thought we won the competition... because during the finals the red alliance team numbers said 165, 88 and 1524... haha... when you guys were celebrating we were gonna run over with you... hahaha

We were very lucky to get picked. We were ranked 42 or something(It kept changing!) and yet we still got to compete in the quarter-finals. 104 and 1143, thanks so much for choosing us. Congrats to RAGE and the other members of that alliance, you were great. Congrats to all the other teams who participated this weekend too.

On another note, I want to thank Team 88 for their support of the 007-122-175 during semi-finals and finals; I'm sure it seems strange, but your enthusiasm kept us (or at least me) going.

Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional

I just want to put out a special thank you to three teams who were always on time and prepared for queuing. It made my life much easier, especially Friday morning when everyone else needed three calls. Those teams are 122, 1640, and 104. Also, a high-five to team 1542 for being really nice and listening well to instructions, and not getting discouraged about the lack of scoring ability. I thought all these teams were exceptional, and I hope you continue to show up promptly for queuing.

Sammy

P.S. Next time you show up for queuing, bring some bling. I was disappointed at the lack of bling I received

Sorry we didn't hand out much "bling" this year. We would usually hand out many cowtails and cow bandanas, but this year we just didn't have the supplies.

Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional

OK more awake now Definitely a good time there, had a fun time playing volleyball with Rage in the stands, I was waiting for it to go right in front of the cameraman while he had a shot on the big screen. Didn't have to do any repairs on our bot, so I wasn't sick of being in the pits by time Saturday came along like last year. The "A steak dinner" was hilarious. And there was a really good napping spot up behind the big flag if you were that tired...

The only things that could have been better would have been more techno in the mix, and it would have been nice if the backup teams for the eliminations didn't have to be right in front of the speaker stack

I'll have to try and get back to be a mentor for my team next year.

Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional

On behalf of Area 53, my team had an amazing time at the Chesapeake regional. We feel fortunate to have been chosen by extremely strong teams - 173 and 1027 - for an awesome alliance despite our ranking after the qualifying matches - we're glad you were out there scouting! We really enjoyed competing with you all and it really was a pretty unforgettable competition (121 points?!?!).

This was a personally rewarding experience for me as well, having come to Maryland for a co-op in January and becoming involved as a college student/mentor and coach with a team that has some of the most hard-working students and supportive mentors that I have encountered,

My team thought this competition was extremely well-run thanks to the organizers, volunteers, and of course the hosts at the Naval Academy. We were also really impressed with the good sportsmanship that was displayed by the teams.

On a side note, one of the mentors on 1027 mentioned that they might not be able to attend nationals because of insufficient funds. That would be a shame, and hopefully they will be able to secure a sponsor and compete in Atlanta - and get their donuts!
