New High School Battle Bots

My robotics/tech teacher just got apostcard about this Battle Bots IQ thing. It allows middle and HS students to learn and build a Battle Bot! heres the site with more info. has any FIRST teams made a robot for Battle Bots? i would love to!

It does seem very interesting. I was talking to a competitor with our programmer and mentor about it and it looks really cool. Not to mention I think we are even going as far as to enter the competition ourselves as a team! Well from talks at the UCF regional anyways, those always end up out of hand so yea, you know how it goes, lol. Take it easy and it looks really cool.

MAny of the teams in BBIQ have done or do first. The CEO of BBIQ, Nola Garcia used to mentor on Ramtech (team 59). And theres an event going on here in orlando, at universal studios, april 12-16.

would this recent development have ne thing to do with a certian game u played at a certian friends house?????

We did Battle Bots IQ in 2002 and came in second place even though our robot was under-powered and under-armored. However, that was the only year we did it for several reasons. The time out of school for the students was prohibitive coming right after FIRST as it did, and the stress and impact on our teachers spread them pretty thin, leaving them with no home life.

Battlebots IQ can be fun. I helped with E2V2 and Titanium Knight. The thing with BattleBots though, active weaponry (i.e. spinners) are very dangerous. I remember when we first turned Titanium knight on, the disk immediately started spinning, and the worst part is that it covered the cutoff switch. We had to wait quite awhile to drain the batteries.

I know that there is a team here in Southern California that does (or did) Battlebots or Battlebots IQ. I remember seeing their shirts in the fall before the 2004 season, but I can't remember the team number.

well it looks like there will be a little battle bots competition in my own backyard and Greg Needel and i are in the design stage of making a tetra battle bot for the comp. wish us luck!

Be very cautious with doing stuff in the backyard and all. You'd be surprised how much power some of those suckers have. The actual Battlebots arena is completly steel everywhere with I believe 0.5" lexan all around, as well as the spike rails to keep the robots from slamming into the walls. Even with that, they still have to constantly strengthen the arena cause of newer and even more powerful battlebots. Just be really cautious that you aren't going to throw 2 spinners against each other in the backyard or something silly like that, because the end result won't be a happy one.

well our thoughts are 2 flippers and possibly an axe/drum for weaponary.

can't wait to see what you come up with alex though...

we have a former s.p.a.m.mer that does battle bots...low weight class though..he's won a few tournaments...it's pretty exciting...

one through school though would be interesting to set up..

They used to use .5" lexan, now they use 3 layers, 1/2 - 1/4 - 1/2 people used to break through the 1/2. Also thoes spike rails?...they are 300lbs each. And the walls of the box are doubled up 1 1/4 inch box steel. hardcore....

In the end be extra safe when operating a battlebot, or any robot.

Hey Alex. Did you see there is a Battlebots competition comming to Rochester in September (aw man, it's on the same weekend as the Canada's Wonderland event ) SUnday is the Bills/Falcons game so no robotics no matter what.
