Re: Championship Event WATSON Challange

We might try to play a game after the pits are closed on Thursday or Friday. Obviosuly not Saturday cause its the team social in the park. But I think we will probaly try and fit in a second round of games. I will hand out flyers for the Thursday or Friday one at championships depending on what would would work best. I am pumped and ready for the Wednesday game, we are excited to do something on our "day off".. My team will be out there playing and it seems to me we will probaly have a couple extra to join the team of mixed teammates. It will be fun. I will post the rules next week. If anyone has any preferences on the second game then please post them here. Thanks to all those who have said they want to play. See you in Atlanta.

Nate

Re: Championship Event WATSON Challange

If I remember correctly, there is a fairly large grass field right outside the Gorgia Dome. Last year, everyone passed by it on the way from the pits to the stands and back. You face it as you travel down that huge outdoor escalator. This allows for easy pick-up games during lunch. If you want to play on Thursday or Friday, I would recommend that field if it is avaliable.

Re: Championship Event WATSON Challange

Well, if everything works out some or all of us will be there. however i would think that this park is quite huge, and if so do we meet in a designated area? Also, i know football is big in the US. But would you guys also (after some games of football) be willing to play anyother sports, for example soccer?. (just a thought)

A bunch of 1089 kids would probably play, sadly, we won't be arriving in Atlanta until 7:45am on Thursday. So...Wednesday is out for us. Definitely have a repeat, I haven't played real sports in too long XD

We will meet on the fountain side of the park (where the enterance to the team social was last year) You will most likely be able to see us as we will have footballs and watsons shirts and yellow beanies on and hopefully we will have a good sized crowd of players.

Re: Championship Event WATSON Challange

Although football is fun my team sport of choice is ultimate frisbee. As anyone who played with us this year at Philly, or last year at Atlanta knows its tons of fun. We will have periodical games allday everyday, especially at lunch time. So meet us at the field next to the entrance of the arena(or at least the one we used last year near the outdoor escalator).

Re: Championship Event WATSON Challange

Here are the basic Rules for now:

Wednesday (3-6) Friday (5-dark(I watched part of the masters and they called it due to darkness around 7:30 so it will probaly be until 8))

No more then 10 people on a team, if you have more then put them in the pool with the teams that don't quite have 10 people or create a second team.

There will be out of bounds and endzones designated by cones.

Elect a team captain, they will flip a coin, winner gets ball first (switch possesions on touchdowns and tournovers (4 downs or fumble, interception)

Each game will last about a half hour before switching

Keep your own score, Call your own fouls, Be Gracious Professionals when it comes to calling fouls (i.e. don't do excessively)

Wear old team attire if possible so you can match with your team, I will also see if I can borrow my schools pick up game jerseys (they just go over your shirt, we have yellow, blue and red i think)

Mentors and Students are welcome. Wednesday champ will face Fridays champ for a trophy

Two Hand Touch

4-Downs to get into the endzone, (Field will be about 50 yards) This may change depending on results...

A touchdown is worth 7 points (No kicking involved)

30 seconds to call a play. (This won't be timed but don't take more then this to tell your team where to run etc...)

1 foot in bounds or shoved out of bounds = catch (College Rules)

You can hike the ball either by turning and throwing from the center to the quarterback or traditional style between the legs

Only one forward pass per play, unlimited backward laterals

You can throw the ball away if need be, no intentional grounding penalty

Have fun

Thats more then enough I think, Just use your heads and if you have any questions ask them now so when we get there we can just get out there and play. Thanks to all those who have alreadly said they will partcipate see you then.

Nate Edwards

Re: Championship Event WATSON Challange

I think it will be more like 8:30 - 8:45ish when it gets too dark to play because of all the lights from the skyline, so more time.

I was wondering if we could get more cones to get 10 yds line markers so we can try and do 1st downs because 4 downs to get 50 yards might be pretty hard.

And the last thing is, do we take it from the 1 or do we kick-off (punt)?

Thanks.

Re: Championship Event WATSON Challange

What about Ultimate Frisbee guys? It seems like there is enough interest to get a game going. Also, can we move the end time back to about 7ish on wed. because we aren't flying in until 3:00. If not there will probably be a few 229ers out throwing the disc around later if anyone wants to come join in. Anyone is welcome, but we will need 10-14 people to get a game going.

See you in Atlanta,
JT
