Re: ATTN: Cappers in Auto.

I know that team 401 capped the corner goal that they started next to with a starting tetra. At VCU I believe that they only missed once and they went on to win the regional.

Re: ATTN: Cappers in Auto.

After today we've joined the capper gang. We capped the corner goal with the starting tetra all but one or two of our 9 matches today. We just used some wheel counters to keep it relativly consistent, although i'm pretty sure dead reckoning would have worked.

Re: ATTN: Cappers in Auto.

To clear things up for those unclear on the concept, I'm pretty sure this is about capping the vision tetra in autonomous. Capping a given tetra is great, but I've only seen 66 actually cap the vision tetra in auto. Anyways, back to your regularly scheduled CD...

Re: ATTN: Cappers in Auto.

We can cap the left, center, or right goal in the "home row" in autonomous mode when we start with a tetra.

Re: ATTN: Cappers in Auto.

Taking what Johnny B already said:

we cap the center goal 100% now in autonomous mode. From there, we can do whatever we really need.

Taking the scripting FIRST 'gave' us this year, we've developed a similar system but all 100% original code that allows us to script autonomous modes very quickly.

We utilize left and right free spinning encoders, a pot on each joint (2 joints) and a pneumatic cylinder we maintain the position of in code.

Although we have yet to code an autonomous mode from a diagram and use it in an actual elimination match, nationals might be the time that comes.

Currently, I am working on two different projects to theoretically enable us to cap any goal: a) a free text parser that writes autonomous modes b) a gui that you can use to create autonomous modes.

The only reason our team has the luxury to do these crazy things is because with the no work periods, the programmers would get bored. )

our auto mode is to knock down the hanging tetra, cap the center back goal and the drive into the loading zone to our side.

Team 980 did it 9 or ten times at SVR . We start holding a tetra and as we lift it up it knocks the magnetic tetra down then we spin and cap the center goal every time.
We have also managed to cap the center goal with a vision tetra 6 times in under 15 seconds but only at home, somehow we only went as far as doing it once on the practice field at SVR.
We will keep trying maybe we'll pull it off by nationals along with the rest of the teams that are working hard at this.

As a field volunteer I can honestly say that the FIRST calibration is not very good. Due to changing field conditions, and a general indifference by the field staff (after all how many teams use the vision tetras?) create virtually unusable calibration. For instance, at SVR, we got a calibration of 97 for green. We then re-did the calibration with the vision tetra rotated ~5 deg and got 32. We posted "97/32" in the pit; really useful for teams.

From a strategy standpoint, I think that it may be almost as useful to knock down the corner tetra and cap the center, giving the alliance 15 points in autonomous. One act which seems very hard is to cap the center home tetra starting from the center (forward position) with the starting tetra. We seemed to be the only team at SVR which could do so. Also, I think that it is surprising that in many ways, the real "autonomous challenge" has not been the vision tetras, but the starting tetra and hanging tetras.

On the topic of mythical FIRST things, has any regional other than SVR had real time scoring working consistantly?
