Talking I'd like to see you in Las Vegas!

Hello All,

The Las Vegas regional is only a couple of days away, and I personally can't wait! I am fairly new to the Chief Delphi forums (I know, I registered back in 2003, but, very regrettably, had forgotten about Chief Delphi and knew not the greatness of this incredible community ). I enjoyed my years as a member of a FIRST team, but now, as a college student, I enjoy even more so mentoring and sharing my (very small amount ) of expertise with high school students and attending the always exciting competitions.

One of the things I enjoy most about these competitions is the amazing people I meet and make friends with. So, I am here to ask all of you Chief Delphi posters that will be in attendance at the Las Vegas regional (and hey, Nationals too!) to stop by the 987 pit and say hi! I would love to meet all of you in person, and I will be providing lots of way cool handouts (for as long as they last ). Also, I will happily provide any assistance robot-wise that I can (I'm pretty knowledgeable about this years game, parts and components, strategies, programming etc.).

Thanks, and I hope to see you all in my hometown!
-Steve

Andy,

I am glad to hear you are going to be in Las Vegas. I would like to suggest one word to you, "Buffet". Take the time to go to the RIO Hotel for their seafood buffet. It is first class.

See you in Vegas.

Ken

Viva Las Vegas?

I suppose that I am in a minority on this but I think that rather than talking about hosting the Championships back at Disney, I think that Las Vegas would be a GREAT place to host the Championships.

Las Vegas has venues to host us all in one building - competition, pits, wrap party, hotel space, food venues - all under one roof. In fact, they have enough venues like this that we could probably just show up without even phoning ahead ;-)

There is that business about Sin City and all, but I think that it could be managed.

Cheap flights from almost anywhere, nearly infinite hotel capacity, many venues, warm climate. I think it could be a winner.

Thoughts?

Absolutely There are many possible venues and tons of hotel space. Unfortunately, I think it is the "Sin City" business that will keep championships out of the picture for Vegas at least for a while. I think I remember hearing one of the students on my team in charge of hotel booking and whatnot say that only non-gaming hotels were available for booking with FIRST. I know of a couple of teams from the Phoenix regional who got a better deal staying in a hotel/casino.

Re: I'd like to see you in Las Vegas!

991's staying on the Las Vegas Strip at the Riviera!
It's only slightly better than the price FIRST offered, but FIRST-approved hotels did offer a free breakfast that we will not get. All the same, there will be plenty for the team to do in the evenings within walking distance from the Riviera so we're stoked!
As an added bonus, 991 gets to tour the Nevada Test Site (the most A/H bombed place on earth) so if there is an eerie glow coming from our pits, it's not just the excitement of being in Vegas that's the cause of it.
