Re: Most obsessed
Well there's been plenty of stuff, but storing the robot in my house for 3 months is a good one.

Re: Most obsessed
I wrote an 95 page business plan for my team. And revised it three times, I also have written 3 chairman's award, 3 executive summarys, the team handbook, the team application, kept track of all hours, clocked the most hours two years in a row, and won 2 Regional Chairman's Awards. Also I help code the team website, did all of the wiring, supervise drive team practice, pay for the websites for our team, painted the crate twice, and besides the Chairman's Award submission in my second year I had a broken foot so wasn't even allowed in the robot shop due to safety reasons. I think I am a little obssesive, I jumped high in the air when they said 100 page business plan during our winning chairman's award speech this year and everyone looked at me, and finally understood when they announced my teams name and went on to tackle a teammate, almost knock out a ref, grabthe metal, hug Mark Leon and then sat in the stands and cried. Not something everyone wants to admit. But man was I happy.

Well, mine isn't very exciting... but as a freshman on a rookie team , the only freshman mind you, I couldn't really do much for the team. I don't know how to do programing, welding just looks dangerous to me, and no one in the shop offered me a job because any job that I could do was so small and insignificant that... why bother? Yet I came. Almost everyday after school for six weeks, from 3 to 7 at least... just sitting, waiting, hoping, for a job to come up. Everyone else gives up so much time to work and build a robot, but it's even tougher giving up so much time waiting for your chance to build a robot. Feeling like you're useless to the team. But I kept going, dedicated, obsessed with the idea that today I'd have a job, today I'll contribute, today I'd be a part of the team. Well today, I am the team photographer (I finally found a job, and a use for my darkroom), and today I know that I'll be in Atlanta April 20th-24!

Re: Most obsessed
other than all of the late nights working in the machine shop, the most obsessed thing i have done was 2 weeks ago at the chesapeake regional. even though i had graduated i still go back. so after a week of finals, iwent down to the naval academy on friday and saturday. but i couldnt get there my self so i asked a former teamate for thursday, i drove done 9 in the morning from ambler (suburb of philly) to the naval academyfor the day and got back home 10 at night. 150 miles one way. then the next day asked another old HS friend and drove down 7 in the morning saturday and got home 10 at night. 300+ miles each day. people even told me i was obsessed. but it was all worth it seeing the team's hard work pay off and see them winning regional chairmans for the 3rd straight year. (past 2 were in philly)

Re: Most obsessed
Generally known as the most obsessed on my team becuase A. tell me a number I'll tell you a name b. Tell me a number or name I'll describe a robot c. I spend at least 4 hours a day on chiefdelphi. Also came in second in attendance this year. I helped in pretty much every area of the robot. And was always one of the last to leave. Of course this is probably helped by the fact I'm in eighth grade and don't have homework.

The first year I dyed my hair, I went to Regionals, and decided the blue was to light of a color. So, prior to nationals, I decided on a MUCH darker blue - fully knowing that I was to go to a Prom two weeks later (not even my own). HA HA! Whoops, not even bleach took that out it was so dark! I continue to dye my hair, but I've aged quite a bit, and have some experience with the blues now. My professors find it comical in the IT world - blue hair and a business suit. As for my rooms (parents house and my apartment) my walls are plastered end to end in Robotics "doings", memorabilia, and Bob the Builder. Robot carpet, ROBOTS boxes, pictures, pictures, and pictures, everywhere. Even the memories and photos of sleeping with Robots! ![]() I travel over an hour home during the build season every weekend to work with my alma mater, and although not as obsessed as I used to be. My mind is a "human database". Give me a name, a location, or a number.... and I can start spitting out information..... its like a broken slot machine... one bit after another bit just being output to you from my internal database. My build seasons consisted of over 400 logged hours in the shop working when I was in high school, and I shocked myself at the hours I was still able to put in this year. I choose to spend my Birthdays at competition rather than anywhere else. In 2003 I made the trip to Chessy for the weekend of my birthday, just so I could be near Robots and Competition. It was so amazing, that I knew I had to do it again. This year, I made the trip all the way to Pittsburgh for my birthday..... because I'd rather be near robots than anyone or anything else. |

Re: Most obsessed
I agreed to be a chaperon... and now, instead of sneaking down to Georgia on a plane I have to take an 8 hour bus ride with teens, teens I say!!! Oh the insanity! And come to think of it, I don't think I missed a single meeting during this past build season and I don't know if anyone else on our team can say that (well, they could always say it, but would they be telling the truth?)

Re: Most obsessed
I spent nearly $300 of my own money to buy parts for the robot, and I wasn't even sure if I was going to be reimbursed or not.
I did end up getting reimbursed. But, still $300?! Do you know how much that means to a 16-year-old without a job?! |

Re: Most obsessed
My story takes place in 03, when they extended the build season. Myself and 6 of my other team members were working at the shop when it started snowing. So we all took a 20 minute break, ran home to get food blankets and toothbrushes, then came back to the shop and kept working. We decided that if we still had work to do we would have to spend the night in the shop.

Re: Most obsessed
ok I have done many obsessed things...as leslie said...much of the wardrobe is pink...I got Jim Kennedy to say "Go Pink" at a VIP luncheon...that was cool...after competitions we wear our medals...this time on monday when we go back to school we have 3 medals to wear from the year...i have made backgrounds on my com celebrating my team...me (plus a few other people like courtney and maia) came up with the idea for nerdstock 2k5 shirts...so many stupid things like that...i love my team...my life would not be the same without it...last week i bleached my hair and dyed it pink...but i ran out of bleach so it turned out pretty bad...obsession for robotics...isnt it great??
I also dyed scout nazi's hair pink lol...that was funny...I bought christmas lights in all pink...do you know how hard it is to find those? i wasnt even sure they made them...i spent an hour in walmart going through every single box to see if they existed...and they do...wanna see them? in our pit in atlanta! Re: Most obsessed
Well i think reading endless forums on chiefdelphi is obsessive. After FLR i came home and couldn't stop talking about robotics. At first my parents thought i had gone insane with all the capping and autonomus mode and robotics things.
