Thought for 2k6: Competitions you're attending?

I recall that somebody (phrontist?) had a page up this year that listed all the people on CD that would theoretically be at a regional competition. Of course, their method involved grabbing every team's member lists and matching it up with a regional's team list, which led to some inherent flaws (for example, I went to the UCF regional, while 1293 didn't. On the other hand, I did plan that as a surprise to some--just ask Tytus and Arefin ).

So is there a way to add in a sort of check-box list of regionals (and championships, and other big FIRST events if you're feeling frisky) we as individuals will be attending, which could then be integrated with search or profiles or what not?

Re: Thought for 2k6: Competitions you're attending?

How about this (for 2006).

You go in and checkmark next to every event you're attending.

Then, when you see someones postbit (vB3 code talk for 'stuff by their username') it will have some kind of indicator saying 'hey, this person will be at an event you'll be at'. This would go along with just another set of lists that show who all is where in an overall sense.

Sound good?

So it'd be something like the following?

Joined: Feb 2004 | Rookie: 2004

Also attending: Palmetto, Championship

(I just used the right side, as it tends to be smaller than the left, with the team role and user title and such.)

Something like that .. and it would only show you the events that you both share in common. We may have to give it a 'yes, definitely' and a 'possibly' rating too. I know some people are unsure until the very last minute whether or not they're going to some events (due to qualification, last minute registration, or just 'hey, roadtrip!')

Question mark after the possible events, then?

Re: Thought for 2k6: Competitions you're attending?

How about a little circle under their postibit. If its green, they will be at a competition you are attending, if its yellow, they may be at at competition, and if its grey, they wont be. When you mouse over this icon a popupbox will come up and either list their events or link to a page that will list them.

Re: Thought for 2k6: Competitions you're attending?

That's a lot to add to that side, though I like the idea. I would like to suggest that to save space we follow FIRST's usage of acronyms for all the regionals - GTR, UTC, CMP. There could be a link to a common page with what the acronyms mean.

I like Billfred's idea the most. I'd like to see where they're going even if I may not be there.
