Walking Robots

Does anyone know of a walking robot done in FIRST? Just browsing through Chief Delphi I saw mention of one, but I forget now. Seems like an interesting idea.

Check out team 276. I recall they have patented a walking drivetrain, used on their robots for several years now. This year's version is a little slow, but effective and powerful.

I havnt seen one, but apparently 276 did one. Ive been toying with the idea for about a year now, but I dont think itll happen at 116 during my term on the team at least.

More of a shuffle, than a walk, but it was the closest to walking at the time.

In the beginning of the season I was considering making a shuffle bot. I had seen a robot on battlebots, back when it was on the air that had some sheets of plastic stacked up sideways, with a cam in the middle which spun quickly and made the feet go. It was darn quick and they got a weight bonus for being a walking bot.

yes but that robot was a "walking" beast (no pun intended) I consider it walking so therefore it is a walking robot.

Wow that is amazing, actually I do belief that at some point FIRST could have that type of bots. I just hope im still here to se them. It shouln't be far at this rate of progress.

In 2001, Team 25 (2000 National Champions) made Robo-Kong (I believe that was the name). It didn't really walk, but it would move to the bar in the center of the field and then do a "handstand" to carry itself across the bar. A very neat exercise in robot locomotion.

Their 2000 Champion robot had a very unique strategy also. Catch them in Atlanta and I'm sure they can provide more details on both.

By the way, they are in Gali-LEO!!!

That robot was Son of Whyachi...The design is extremely effective. I beleive that they had a 15ft/sec speed before they lost control.

Walking seems really inefficient with many of the past game designs. However using real human hands could be an ideal universal manipulator for teleoperation.

Imagine putting on a glove that moves a robotic hand just as your hand moves. Operator Training and mistake would be minimal. Control System theory potentially might be quite simple as a one to one mapping. Robonaut is a great example of mapping remote hand control.

The hand controller has already been developed. I've seen them at the ROBOOlympics out in sanfran.
