Honda Motor Co's humanoid robot

Honda Motor Co's humanoid robot Asimo walks down steps as Japanese schoolchildren, Japan's first astronaut and museum director Mamoru Mohri (2nd R) and science teacher Ryotaro Inoue watch a demonstration, in Tokyo April 6, 2005. Honda said it will offer Asimo to aid in teaching science classes for young people, programmed by the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, on such contents as center of gravity, balancing, and advancement of science and technology.

Re: Honda Motor Co's humanoid robot

AISMO is pretty sweet, but he's been around for a while.

One of the best things about a robot like this is it teaches us a lot about the way WE walk, and it solves a lot of the issues with domestic helper robots. He'll be able to go up stairs, avoid obstacles, and looks a lot more like a friendly helper than your average FIRST robot does...

Re: Honda Motor Co's humanoid robot

I am well aware of Honda's wonderful Asimo... I can't believe how far advanced that technology has become! Of course I would be even more amazed once I see Asimo in person. Maybe Asimo can come visit in a nationals of an upcoming FIRST season .

On a side note, that is one heck of an autonomous mode! I wish our robot could teach a science class!

Re: Honda Motor Co's humanoid robot

I had a chance to see, what turned out to be, a very good Honda ASIMO demo here at Purdue University about 1 week before the regional. The day of I was flat worn out from exams and homework and found myself too lazy to walk across campus to see it. Now, I'm kicking myself for not going

EDIT: If you think the ASIMO is cool, you should check out Toyota's i-Foot and i-Unit!

Re: Honda Motor Co's humanoid robot

eh... I'm a little biased, but i think Robonaut is by far the coolest humanoid robot. sure it doesn't walk, but the upperbody is just amazing. link The hands are extremely accurate and the controls are even cooler. Having mentors who work on it is quite a bonus too, like getting to go up and look at it at nasa.

On the topic of robots, that so called transformer seems to be a hoax, but still awsome never the less. That link is really an animation but still funny never the less and just puts a smile on your face, check it out for a nice robot dance!

Credit to "The Mini Cooper Autonous Robot" page for information about being a hoax.

Yeah, the Mini Cooper robot is a hoax - I found it a while back while doing some research for real robots. That transformer thing is awesome, though. It almost looks like the VW Bug transformer from the old cartoons. I think I might have that action figure down in my basement somewhere...
