Twitching Robot

Has anyone noticed uncommanded motor movement?

Our bot often has random motor movement. We have tried a new location to check for household interference. We have tried multiple transmitters. We are in the process of swapping micro controllers.

Anyone else with this issue or a solution to it?

Thanks,

Susan

Re: Twitching Robot

Is it with motors (continuous rotation) or servos (hold position)?

Re: Twitching Robot

It is with motors.

We are also going to try a tether to check for interference with the radio frequency. We are currently testing in a fairly high density residential neighborhood.

Thanks,

Re: Twitching Robot

We've had issues with twitching when the batteries go low. Perhaps that is the issue.

Re: Twitching Robot

we've had that problem only once, and that was because another team had their controller turned on at the same time as ours, other wise, twitching motors has not been a problem.

Re: Twitching Robot

We had this problem when we installed 4WD on our robot. It turned out that the batterys were drained and after a recharge, everything worked fine again.

Re: Twitching Robot

We are having the same problem. Our robot motors twitch whenever the motor is enabled, including when our robot is running under commands (joysticks giving robot commands,) and when at rest. We programmed a dead zone on the joysticks when at rest, so there are literally no inputs. We are using a fully charged battery and there are no networks with the same IP nearby. Any ideas?

Edit: Never Mind, Doing FRC, not FTC

could you post your code that controls the motor?
if you are setting the motor to 0 in more than one location in the code, the motor will twitch.

Re: Twitching Robot

We ran into a twitching issue related to using a USB hub on one of our laptops. For whatever reason, when using a USB hub to plug in an extra joystick, the thing would quickly cycle dropping connectivity with both joysticks. We only saw the issue on the one laptop and only if using a USB hub.
Note that our experience should not rule out a coding issue, but wanted to share it as you as your issue may be similar and if so, a real pain to troubleshoot.
