Shooting Percentage?

What sort of percentages are your kids getting shooting those wiffle balls?

Even after a lot of practice it is darn near impossible to get those balls to say in the mobile goal, even when the goal is right up near the player station. Isn't it?

The stationary goal is not AS hard but it is not as easy as the full size goal from last year -- even I could hit about 50-60% of those. It is not so easy to get that 4" diameter ball to hit that 9" diameter goal.

Thoughts?

Comment from Team 2 , Manchester NH.

Because our team is made up of freshman members of our FIRST Team, we plan to use CHAOS for our Vex team name.

I was also surprised how easily the balls bounced out of the mobile goal. we had planned on scoring some points that way. We did not buiild a ball drop, does anyone know if they will all just bounce out?

Re: Shooting Percentage?

yeah, the mobile is a LOT tougher than the stationary. Are HPs were only shooting about 1 in 6 during the first week, but now that we have a stationary and they've practiced they're up to around 75% and still improving.

Re: Shooting Percentage?

This is a random thought, take it for what it is.

I recall once watching one of those Dateline-esque pieces on carnival games, and the shoot-the-ball-into-the-basket game was one of them. Their trick was to put a spin on the ball, so it rolled around in the basket instead of bouncing out.

Your mileage may vary.

Re: Shooting Percentage?

Well, during the scrimmage we were the only team to get balls into the mobile goal, and even then, that was because we placed it underneath the otherteams ball release. The only other times the mobile goal became uncapped was by acccident or when team # 13 tried to cap the stationary goal, which they did succesfully twice during the qualifying.

Funny... I saw that too... I took their advice and it actually works! In practice with a few other team members we hit 50-70%

Re: Shooting Percentage?

So far, shooting has been so-so for our team. It seems that the only way we can possibly get anything into the mobile goal is to put it right underneath the player station and sort of toss it over the wall. I think it will be rather interesting to see how this all plays out in the championship.

Re: Shooting Percentage?

well, as hp during the scrimmage, i was told to be 20-50% in the middle goal, and never shot for the mobile one. after some practice, i made approximately 13 out of 27 which is about 46 or so percent.
