Lightbulb Virtual High School Course In C Programming/Vex Robotics

Team 236, the Techno-Ticks, seeks to offer a Virtual High School course in C Programming using the Vex Robotics System beginning during the 2005-06 school year. We need an estimate of the demand for such a course.

Normally, a high school participating in VHS must provide a VHS-trained instructor teaching one VHS course for that the school to be able to enroll 25 students in classes of their choosing.

We hope to require only that a participating school will purchase its own Vex Robotics kit ($299) for the enrolled students (FIRST team members) to learn on. But, these schools should expect to pay VHS a fee to cover administrative costs, as this arrangement is providing a credit opportunity for the students involved. In addition, a staff member at the participating school must be available as a point of contact (a VHS Site Coordinator of sorts) for VHS staff.

If you are interested, and feel that your school can fulfill these requirements, please email our main team account (team236@region18.org) using the Subject heading "C Programming Course" and provide the following information:
1. Your name
2. Your high school's name and location
3. Your grade in high school
4. Your robotics team name and number
5. An email address you can be reached at throughout the year (including the summer)

Note: if you have more questions about the plans for this online offering, include them in your email.

Re: Virtual High School Course In C Programming/Vex Robotics

I'd love to participate in this, but I'm (unfortuantely) the only FIRST student at my school.

I hope that this program is used to its full potential by other students. Good luck!

As long as there is a teacher who is VHS qualified, you can take the course all by yourself!

Re: Virtual High School Course in C Programming/Vex Robotics

I am in a similar situation. I am the only person involved in FIRST at my school. Plus, we already have "Computer Science Programming" and "AP Computer Science Programming", except both are in Java (C was used previously for the courses).

Other than that, we could probably get funding for a Vex kit, if there was interest in the class.
