In the operator's manual that came with my body...Sec.1, par.1. "If it hurts, it is your body telling you not to do it anymore!"

Unhappy Re: Hairline Fractures

Well... Right now my back is fractered. It is called spondylolysis of the 5th Lumbar [if you want to get technical]. It is actually what got me involved in robotics. In January I was having back pain in track - thought it was a pulled muscle [might have been] So, I pole-vaulted at a meet, but one of my attempts a landed on the bar. It hurt pretty bad but I ignored it and went again... qualified sectionals and made the height [6'] in trying for 6'6 I did not make the height and laned on the bar a second time. I was done. I didnt think anything of the pain. I laid down on the floor because I was tired and resting before the 4x400. I tried to sit up.. and the worst pain went through my back. I started crying right away, and for the rest of the time it hurt so bad, I sobbed the rest of the meet and the bus ride home. [I also love running so I was upset that the one thing I had in my life was torn away from me] So I went to the docs etc.. said it was fractured. Gave it some time to heal, went to one physical therapy appointment.. and then had to go to the docs. They did nuclear imaging... and its not healing. So.. now after nationals I have a ton of lovely appointments.. like an MRI and a few visits to the orthopedic.... But I am not too upset because I dont think I would have known about FIRST if this didnt happen. Everything happens for a reason. I just wish it would get better now .

Re: Hairline Fractures

Fainted once and as I went down my pinkie toe got caught underneath the door I was standing next to! Ouch! Broke it.

Jammed my pinkie finger back in November and it still hurts -probably broke it, now I probably have arthritis in it.

Get your crutches and bring them to Atlanta - you can meet my daughter who will be on hers there and she can tell you about all the weird orthopedic things she's had going on...

Re: Hairline Fractures

fell once when i was really little and jammed a rock through my upper lip. it tore a little hole just above my lip. looked way worse than it was.

sprained my wrist really bad doing a tailwhip on my bmx bike. went to the hospital and waited in the emergency room for about 8 hours before we decided to just leave. dont get me wrong, i got an x-ray, but the radiologist said it didnt look bad enough to stay. still not sure what happened internally. one of the doctors said it was probably internal swelling.

luckily thats all that has happened to me really. i bmx, some snowboarding, motocross, and i used to skateboard. i just love to dodge bullets.

Re: Hairline Fractures

yeah, i haven't broken or fractured or had any bone out of place at all in my life (except teeth but they don't count) but I've had my share of injuries, like a Bottle Rocket up my...yeah shorts. Funny story i think i have the thing on video.

However the worst bone related injury I've had were some really bad reoccurring shin splints (as a matter of fact i have them now) Its not the biggest problem in the world but i guess you can compare it to arthritis in teenagers, at some points when i've had it i've needed to take a break from cross country or even drop out of a race, there were a couple times I had to get a golf cart when i'm out on the course because of it. But its not the most deabilitating condition and i'll grow out of it, quite literally.

Re: Hairline Fractures

Well, some good news if it ends up being a fracture, it heals a whole lot faster and a lot less painful then a sprain or strain.

I've never broken a bone, but knowing this fact I wish I had given my list of injuries! (I just had my 3rd knee surgery and I'm only 21 years old!) If you need any cheering on to get better, or just want a story or two about how someone else got hurt so you don't feel so bad, let me know!

I'm the queen of being sick and injured

Re: Hairline Fractures

broke finger because brother threw log onto it when i was really young. broke my fibula and my growth plate in my ankle during a football practice. also dislocated my hip 13 degrees and i now have a pin in my hip. i am not allowed to play any contact sports for awhile. i asked the Doctor if i could play rugby last year and he thought i was crazy, he just sat there and stared at me for a few minutes then said what's wrong with the youth today?

Re: Hairline Fractures

Good news Y'all!

I am not part broken, but the bone/foot is so bruisified that I will be limping like mad but I do have an ace bandage.

Since crutches would make scouting impossible, I'm glad I don't have em. Nothing comes between me and scouting.

Re: Hairline Fractures

Feel better, Genia!

I've never broken any limbs....but I have broken my front tooth.

I was pushed (accidentally, but still pushed) into a metal door frame while running into a girl's bathroom in 4th Grade at a Girl Scout meeting. My front tooth broke diagonally, and I followed what the old PSAs that told you to put your broken part of your tooth in milk while bringing it to the dentist.

Long story short, after a root canal, temporary material in the shape of a tooth, temporary caps, and some interesting class pictures, I now have a permanent cap on (my right) front tooth. It's a slight different shade than the rest of them, but that's from all the coffee I drink.

Re: Hairline Fractures

i Had a random hairline fracture on my left leg once.

other than that, i broke my right leg in 2 places and my right arm (if ur going to championships, you can see the scar where the bone stuck out ) while riding my bike down Blue Ridge.

Messed up L1 and L2 on my spine at a wrestling tournament. The guy picked me straight up, lost his balance and ended up dropping my back on his knee. Also broke my sternum wrestling.

got a hairline fracture on my skull after a car accident.

and finally, i broke 2 ribs playing football. dove for the ball, didn't see the pole, and BAM.

yup, besides all that, i think I'm a healthy kid
