Spirited Teams at the Championship

Hey, folks.

Since it was very difficult for anyone to experience the spirit of all four divisions at the Championship Event, let's share info on who had big-time spirit at the Championships.

In Galileo, the RoboRaiders (75), TJ^2 (88), and Chief Delphi (47) stood out to me, while I was in the stands.

Let's hear other spirit examples from Galileo and the other divisions!

Re: Spirited Teams at the Championship

I have to say that 365 DEFINITELY put out a very spirited stands crew, like they do every competition. 1108 also did with their awesome flags and yellow pom poms.

Re: Spirited Teams at the Championship

Team 364 was very spirited on Newton. There were others too, but Team Fusion's spirit was incredible.

Also... I was suprised by the limited number of teams who didn't stand up and cheer for other teams who won awards. In the upper deck, we gave a standing ovation for each other team who got an award, as did 364 and 111 (and maybe others). While we might not be the most spirited team during all of the matches, we gladly give standing o's when each team is called for their award. The lower deck seemed to have more people standing up for each award winner.

We did have the wave going in the upper deck. It was even bouncing back and forth. That was cool.

But, the group who had the MOST SPIRIT at the awards ceremony were the JUDGES. They kicked our butts! Did you all see how crazy they were acting? These business professionals, corporate leaders, educators and inventors were GOING CRAZY. They were dancing, throwing things up in the air, and whooping it up for each award winner. It was impressive. The judge's room must've had cases of Red Bull available to each judge. Maybe Joe Johnson* taught them all the "oooga cheer". I dunno, but I felt like I wanted what they were havin'.

Andy B.

* - While Dr. Joe was a Championship judge, I was sad to see that he was not announced during Friday's opening ceremony. Whoever had the list of judges to announce did not confirm that he was there until the last minute, I guess. If Joe was announced, I was looking forward to the Dome erupting in applause.

Thanks Andy!

Before leaving Gulfport for the Championship event, our Team Leader (David Fava) told me that it was a lonely feeling sitting in the stands and not being chosen for the finals after qualifying was over. We sure found out he was right, but I was really impressed with the way our students and team supporters kept on cheering all the way to the end of Einstein. When I went back to the pits and started tearing it down during the Divisional Finals, my daughter called from home and said that she kept hearing our name mentioned on NASA TV about how loud we still were.

I guess the judge at Lonestar was right when she said "Oh, you're that team with the psycho fans!"

On Archimedes I mostly heard:

-Team 233 Think Pink. How could you miss em?

I think that 230 and 364 were the most spirited for Newton. One team, I forgot which one it was, had a conch shell and I loved it. I thought it was so neat.

Re: Spirited Teams at the Championship

Well, for Curie, I would say, Buzz(175) and 1574 (The Israeli Team) were very enthusiastic with their cheering. I also noticed the "Cyber Knights," with their big ol' signs waving around. We were sitting pretty low, so I prolly missed the ones above us.

In galileo, I'd say 47 was most spirited, they were always cheering.

Re: Spirited Teams at the Championship

Team 75 had a terrific time teaming up with MOE 365 in the stands to create an awesome cheering section. I think our team finally realized how fun it is to be so spirited this year (a complete turnaround from practically no cheering in 2003). Hoepfully we'll see you at nats again next year!

We also enjoyed cheering with you, team 75 is a great and loud team, and also can't wait for next year.

MOE always approaches Competitions in a two-fold manner.

One, we are very serious about competing.
Two, we are very serious about partying.

Now, if my boss would only let me do the "Bernie Dance" at work when one of my experiments goes well, life would be perfect.
