Team 1071 unoffical video

I was bored and attempted to make a video.. This was my first time using movie maker.. Sorry about not haveing much from UTC because all our video came out terrible, and the kid that's going to make the offical video hasn't uploaded anything from nationals yet, so it was all the footage off of soap108.com..

Team MAX 1071 Video!!!

Team MAX 1071 Video!!!
Good job using poor quality footage! Just a few suggestions:
1. Titleing was good when it was on the blue, but the white text over the video was a bit too generic for my tastes
2. Mute the audio track during the nationals section to emphasis the music more and remove some of the backround noises.

All and all good looking for an attempt! Using movie maker and other video tools takes practice to get good at using, your on the right track!

Re: Team 1071 unoffical video

I agree, you managed to put together a good highlight reel despite the pretty bad FIRST video feed. Make sure you get somebody down on the field with a camera next year! Media badges are amazing.

You can do a lot with Movie Maker...more than people think. I tried to do some editing in MIT's student media lab with Final Cut Pro, got frustrated with the Macs, and went back to Movie Maker on my laptop. It did everything I wanted to do and more. Check out www.windowsmoviemakers.net if you want to learn some more advanced stuff. (There are many more transitions than Microsoft includes standard...you can unlock them and play around with a simple xml file.)

My HS team (527) was on Archimedes so I got to see you guys a lot...what a great machine! The video definitely shows that.

Oh yea, and I applaud the music selection!

We had a person (me) as the media person, except I don't go to the high school that is makeing the good video. I guess we're going to have a half hour movie on the season from build season, to UTC, to nationals, and hopefully a shorter higlight video. Once the videos with the better footage is up I'll post a link.

Thanks about the comment on the machine I was one the top machinist and one of the top mechanical guys, we had our hearts set on that design since day 3 and kept it simple. Hopefully for some invitational compeitions we'll speed up the robot and have some more practice for the drivers (on a scale of 1 to 10, we probably did a 7 in Atlanta compared to what that drive team and robot could do with practice)..

Re: Team 1071 unoffical video

Sounds really cool. I'd love to tackle a full-length video next year; I've been doing just 5-minute highlight reels for teams 97 and 527 this year. (Each one got 10+ hours of prep. work/capturing/editing, so I can imagine a half-hour documentary would be a real big project.) It's a whole different story when you need to put together a feature from build season to regionals to nationals...but something that I think would be great to show off. I just discovered that my camera can shoot in 16:9 widescreen, so I may give that a try next year and aim for a real movie feel. Maybe FIRST should have a competition for highlight reels/documentaries and the winner gets shown at nationals...that would be neat. (The Chairman's Award video is close to this, I guess.) Of course I'd be disqualified since I'm no longer in high school...but I could enlist one of my team's HS kids who I would trust with my camera.

Team 97 hasn't finalized its plans for next year yet, but UTC is always a possibility for us since we are based in Boston...maybe we'll see you there. Good job again!
